More about Taj Hari Mahal
Surprisingly good
by TripAdvisor Member rixrat
We recently spent two nights at the Taj Hari Mahal while traveling around Rajisthan and despite its large size as a conference hotel we found it very enjoyable. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet was good as was the Chinese restaurant. The Indian food was especially delicious, especially the regional specialties--some of the best we had during our trip. Our three teenagers were catered to by the pool and there was nightly entertainment. We had wanted to stay at the Umaid Bhawan but could not get rooms but were glad that we ended up at the Taj Hari Mahal.
Taj Hotel, not worth the money!
by TripAdvisor Member vikasvp
We stayed in this hotel in nov 2006 for 2 nights.
The main advantage of this hotel is, it is in the city. So easy for escursions, and thats all about it. It is not worth paying the money. Taj brand is reducing in its value. We experienced it in Delhi, Agra and now in Jodhpur. There are many better alternatives if you are ready to shed 300+ US$ for a night.
People, India is moving forward with much better luxary at this prize so you can pick a better alternative if you search and read more reviews.
Taj need to improve which they are doing very slowly! The rooms are okay but not 5 star. Service is okay, not the best, food is good but you can find it in many of 5 star hotel chains.
So Taj Hari Mahal have nothing better to offer than just the name!
I will aviod staying here next time and will not advise to my friends.
Relaxing and well appointed

This was the first hotel we stayed in India, and even after all the other hotels we stayed in, I am still pretty impressed by the Taj Hari Mahal. To be honest, it is very much like many other hotels of this standard - the layout of the rooms etc, but the predictability was restful. The hotel pool was lovely (but cold!), and the food was very good. The staff were helpful and friendly, and the prices very reasonable for food and amenities. I really only noticed the train noise on the odd occasion when out by the pool, but never in the rooms. I did not notice any musty smells, and the standard of cleanliness was excellent.
Good, modern and clean

As part of our Rajasthan trip my wife and I spent two nights at the Taj Hari Mahal. Generally, Taj hotels are too expensive for us but this one was affordable at around $250 per night.
The hotel is a newer, kind of neo haveli style building. But it is rather a business hotel and not a quaint haveli. The rooms are spaceous and clean. I would agree with another reviewer that having separate shower stalls in the bathroom rather than a platic curtain around the bath tub would definitely have been preferable.
The hotel is built around a court yard which is mainly occupied by the swimming pool, thus the choice of room type: pool view and outside view.
Staff were friendly and attentive and the restaurant was clean and the food was of good quality but nothing exceptional. Like in so many hotels, internet access is a rip off. There are plenty internet places in town where you pay 20 rupees per hour, far better value.
A very average hotel

We had a disappointing stay at the Taj Hari and, I have to say, couldn't understand the great reviews of the place.
Yes it is modern and comes with all the trappings of a luxury hotel, but on balance during our eight weeks in India we had better stays in small havelis and hostels.
There are some nice touches. You arrive to juice and garlands, followed by a personal welcome to the hotel. The rooms are large and nicely furnished, with a desk area and other chain hotel additionals. The bathroom feels luxurious. Our room overlooked the pool, which was a welcome relief after a hot day.
Despite the hotel being over 3/4 empty when we were there, we were allocated a room which was right next to the area where they clear away crockery (up until midnight) from the BBQ area, which made for a disturbed night the first night. We were moved for our second night but with little apology.
The food we found to be expensive and nothing special - certainly you could eat out in a lovely restaurant for under half the price. Drinks also are expensive by Indian standards. Service we found to be friendly although almost clinical and this was a real shame.
The location is also not ideal. Yes it is in Jodhpur but is on the outskirts of town on a busy ring road, which you are aware of when sitting by the pool. A taxi/rickshaw ride to the fort is approximately half an hour each way.
If we were staying in Jodhpur again we certainly wouldn't stay here, but would find a small, cheaper, more centrally located hotel with more personal service and a flair of individuality. This hotel has none of these things.
Fine but not the best

Great architecture. Rooms and hallways need TLC, we had to purchase incense to mask the musty smell. The hotel is located off a busy road and close to the railway tracks so it is quite noisy.
Service was okay but nothing to rave about. We had high expectations as we were coming from a lovely stay at the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur. What we found out during our trip (after staying at three other TAJ hotels and visiting another one for dinner) that they are very inconsistent in quality, services, and facilities.
The one great thing was the pool! Great for tired hot afternoons after sightseeing and bazaar hopping.
Best value in our India trip

This is the best hotel of our whole India trip when factoring the reasonable cost. We were very impressed by the hotel itself, the large
and clean room, the incredible service and the nice facilities. The hotel pool was very nice. The food was very good. The staff were helpful and friendly.
