Bus Journey – Shimla to McLeod Ganj

The only significant bus journey that we undertook during our entire India trip was from Shimla to McLeod Ganj.
We booked the bus ticket at The HPTDC office which is located on The Ridge, This saves you walking all the way down to the bus station !!
Our ticket was with The Himachal Road Transport Corporation, The bus was ok and departed right on time. The bus / bus ticket went as far as Dharamsala and the cost was 199 rupee.
In Dharamsala we changed busses and took another Himachal Road Transport Corporation bus up to McLeod Ganj, This was only a half hour journey.
We were told that the journey took about 10 hours but on our bus it took 12.
But the journey went well enough, there were plenty of stops, the bus was reasonably comfortable and not to overcrowded.

Himachal has a niche of adventure for everyone. Fagu is not at any tourist map as any major spot. But the place does hold some surprises for those who wish to tread the off beat track an want enjoy real hill untouched hill station, Fagu is only 22 Km away from Shimla.

Main Attractions

Fagu is a vantage point with a panoramic view of ranges and valleys. It serves as a good base for exploring the nearby countryside which is flooded with orchards and forests.
About 10km away is the bustling market town of Theog, a longish village strung out on to the hillside like a necklace. Nearby are the temples of the local god, Banthia devta, which shows some brilliant exercises in woodcarving. Those who enjoy camping can stop at Katir (13km from Fagu) which has a camping site. You can also visit Chail and Kufri. Chail has heighest cricket ground in the world.

"Accomadation"

HPTDC’s Hotel Peach Blossom is decent hotel in Fagu. It has enormous rooms with old fireplaces – excellent for lazy days in winter. You can also find few decent hotel in Fagu.
