Fateh Prakash Palace is part of the City Palace complex and is listed as a Grand Heritage Palace. It was named after one of the greatest rulers of the Mewar’s dynasty, Maharana Fateh Singh (1884-1934). The palace is a grand styled hotel full of antique furniture, original paintings and unique crockery and crystal collections. Each of the 31 rooms and suites at the Fateh Prakash Palace Hotel is also decorated with original portraits and period furniture, some of which have been in the family for generations.
Unique Quality: There are two restaurants. The Gallery restaurant provides a genuine mix cuisine of continental as well as offering nearly all varieties of English teas. The other restaurant is the terrace restaurant The hotel facilities are Swimming Pool, Billiards, Squash, Boating, Bird and Wildlife Watching, Internet Surfing (on request), Crystal Gallery and Holistic Health Treatment.
Udaipur’s city palace is probably the place one would like to stay in. The only competition is the lake palace but the view of it is even better than staying there (sounds a bit like the fox and the sour grape). In brief, it is the place to be in Udaipur. The only slightly tricky part is that I almost got killed there – royally. During fireworks one faulty cartridge shot in the inner court yard instead of in the sky and almost hit the anti-mosquito gas lamp. Sometimes you never know – ways to die can be as exotic as the destination you are in.
Unique Quality: Great views of the lake and surrounding hills. Quiet and exoticly stylish room. Best Indian shower experience.
I stayed at the Fateh Prakesh for 2 nights on my last trip to India. It was a charming room that really made you feel like you were in a palace. The hotel is located conviently right next to the city palace so you have easy access to everything in Udaipur. The food was nothing special but the breakfast was solid and offered a good variety.
