Shree Vilas Orchid: Shree Vilas Orchid
Located on one of the lakes, our room was nice and spacious. Getting to the hotel is a bit of a headache as cars cannot get close to it. We arrived early evening and had to walk to the hotel after the hotel's motorised rickshaw did not pitch. Again a hotel that is not frequented regularly by Westerners, but the staff was friendly and really made us feel at home.
view over lake and lovely pool

The Aravali Tent Resort: The best resort for relax and meditation
The Aravali Tent Resort is located in the heart of city near by City Palace, Dudh Talai (Lake Pichola) & Sajjan Niwas Garden. This resort offers tented camps which made as per the lifestyle of Kingdom but with all luxury amenities like A/c, Heater, Geyser, T.V. Bathroom was spacious but only deluxe rooms were having "bath tubs" and rest were basics. We could not judge the service level due to out for the whole day but when returning to a room in night, we noticed that room keeping guy went to each room and checked for room service which we liked. Morning view is very nice as you can take a cup of tea in balcony and enjoy the nature as this place is surrounded by trees, garden. Only one thing was missing which is Swimming Pool but the breakfast served in morning was fantastic!!
Well if you want to take relax, meditate and don't need any nuisance then this place is absolutely for you. But if you want to be out for whole day then won't recommended to stay there.
The view of each tent rooms was amazing and you can enjoy the nature when wake up in the morning.

Hotel Jaiwana, Udaipur: My Home in India
Looking forward to yet another stay at Jaiwana soon- my 5th visit
After a long train journey from Gujerat, we arrived at Udaipur, and took a taxi to the hotel that we had originally booked at. The rooms were poky, with no windows, and the bathrooms not clean.........and this was not a "budget" hotel! So I scouted around in the nearby surroundings, and happened upon Jaiwana Hotel,at Lal Gat. They fortunately had a room for us, and since then, we stay there on our every visit to Udaipur. The hotel is an old family haveli that has been beautifully renovated, with modern facilities, great tiled bathrooms and tastefully furnished, and the manager & owner, Yash Singh, is the most capable & helpful person we have ever met in India. The staff are pleasant, friendly and unobtrusive.
We did not mind at all not having a television in our room..........the views of the lake were more than enough. There are two rooftop restuarants, one indoor & one outside, both with magical views over Lake Pichola, and food was perfect. In fact- many evenings, the restuarant is completely packed out. Booking is essential. A greater place to stay will be hard to find anywhere in Rajasthan.
Cool marble floors.........lots of arched windows in each room, which overlook the lake. Good tiled bathrooms that ALWAYS had hot water. Marbled staircases.,stained glasswindows. For us, the wonderful rooftop restuarant was the most outstanding feature..........the food is superb and views are breathtaking.
The hotel is situated at Lal Ghat, which is really good, and within walking distance of most tourist attractions & shopping bazaars.
UPDATE ON JAIWANA:
They have added a few brand new rooms, very tasteful- and with lake views.
I was not well on my last visit in January 2104. The kindness and care given to me by Yash and the staff I will always remember.

A large 5-story family-owned guesthouse with a grocery store in front and a rooftop restuarant with a partial view of the Pichola Lake. All rooms have attached small bath and some also with beautiful stainglass windows overlooking the street down below.
It's a private property, so staying here can guarantee safety.

Hotel Gangaur Palace: Great characteristic option
I arrived in Udaipur early in the morning after taking an overnight sleeper from Jaisalmer. I arrived here, my first choice, at about 7am and knocked on the door. Luckily they had a room available. The hotel is well located to all the popular sights and is in an area of small souvenir shops, hotels, restaurants, bakeries and internet cafes so everything you need is on your doorstep. It's an old haveli with a central courtyard featuring souvenir shops and rooms spread over a few storeys. There's a good rooftop restaurant with a good unimpared view of the Lake Palace Hotel. Service is a bit slow but it's OK priced. Breakfasts are good. My room had an entrance hall with a door either side that led to a toliet with small basin on one side and a shower on the other. Hot water is available from 7-11.30am and again in the evening. You then walked through an archway that opened out into a large room that featured lovely wall frescoes on the lower parts of the walls all around the room as well little niches and a balcony seat with cushions and wooden shutters. This was the most atmospheric room I stayed in during my 4 month tour around India and it cost Rs400.

Haveli on the Lake: Beautiful Place to Stay in Udaipur
We stayed at Haveli on the Lake for four days in October and had a great time. The Haveli and all its rooms are beautiful and it is incredibly peaceful and calm, yet is only a 5 minute walk from the tourist centre of town. There are numerous places to relax, such as the roof terrace, the balcony overlooking the garden and lake, and a lovely central area with a long table around which you can sit and drink chai or simply avoid the midday sun. Everyone was very welcoming creating an a wonderful homely atmosphere. The serivce was great and it had all the amenities one could wish for from a guesthouse.
I would definitely recommend Haveli on the Lake as it was our favourite place out of everywhere we stayed during our 6 week trip.
- It's homely atmosphere
- Fantastic views over the lake
- Lovely people
- A fun and very friendly dog

This is a great stay in a charming family run Haveli. It is situated right on the lakeshore, next to the gardens of the City Palace. The old building offers a courtyard surrounded by the rooms. From the rooftop you enjoy a great view over Pichola lake and the famous island hotel.
the family is very helpful and offers great food.
In offseson the price was 100Rs for a doubleroom with a window on the lake!

The Lake Palace is now converted in to a five star palace hotel. There are apartments like the Bada Mahal, Ajjan Niwas, Phool Mahal, Dhola Mahal and Kush Mahal. There is also a swimming pool, bar and conference hall. The elegance of the previous palace is shown in the courtyards, pillared terraces, fountains and gardens.

Jal Dera: Tent accomodation on the Lake Picola
As the name suggest Jal Dera (rendezvous by the water) Tents on the banks of Lake Pichola offers a great and new experience of camping in City of Lakes. The Tents are pitched overlooking the Lake Palace, City Palace, old city and Ghats. Sitting here one can adore beauty of nature and architectural glory of the Medieval Maharajas. One can walk around to see major attractions of city and old mansions, narrow streets and enjoy food at many Roof Top Restaurants nearby.
The only tent stay available in Udaipur and that too at such a scenic location

Hotel Gangaur Ghat: Lazing in Udaipur
This hotel is not in the LP India, which means it has to work harder to attract customers.
It's in the main traveler district on Lake Pichola and offers modern, clean rooms with attached bathrooms for 200 Rs. Great value!
Look at the picture! What a view!

Hotel Gangaur Palace Haveli: a very beautifull accomodation
This is simply the most beautifull, nice, clean, confortable place, I have ever slept during my stay in India.
The building is an old haveli and it is amazing. The rooms (3rd floor) are very big with a private bathroom (really a bathroom with a real shower!!!) and a ncieview on the Lake Pichola and the city Palace.
Once loojking on the inside of the room, you will immediately detect that was an old building.
The staff of the accomodation is simply great, they help me organizing all my next stops, from issing bus tickets, to some suggestion for a nice accomodation in other cities.
They have also a ncie restaurant on the rooftop that serves dinners, luiches and breakfast, and the view on the Lake Pichola from the roof top is great!
Other plus are that they have a laundry servuice 24/7 and 5 metres outside the hotel there is the Aqirindia agency, so you will be able to book also ariline tickets...
When you get out from the hotel take the left side and go direction Lake Pichole (that is 100 meters far). 50 meters before the lajke there is the most beautifull place to take a cake, the german beckerei!
On a little side they play every evening the movie Octopussy.
All those for just 250Rs for a double!!! Definitely a place to overnight once in Udaipur.

For those who want to see what you get for $250 a night in India, here's a small sample. I haven't included my photo of the bathroom, which was almost as palatial as the bedroom, but you can imagine what a bathroom with its own picture window and private terrace would be like.
