I am sorry to disappoint you but the lake in Udaipur is just a memory now.
Not one drop of water was visible in what once was the lake. I was there five month ago.
Ironically the local travel agents still booked us for a romantic and suggestive "sunset cruise" on the lake!.
But don't worry, the city is still spectacular and the Lake Palace Hotel is still as beautiful as it was the first time I saw it many years ago.
Good luck and congratulation for your study. I visited one of these school and brought back several miniature silk painting. What pieces of art!!!

You must have gone during a drought or dry season. I was there in winter of 1997 and there was plenty of water, and we took a night boat over to dine at the famous princely house. It may be that the lake is being restored because I believe that is is partially artificial, being contained by Rajput engineering. The water is certainly not clean because of the bathing activity in it. You could probably find a decent place to rent there for very cheap.

Travel Tips for Udaipur

Imagine Yourself...

by keeweechic

Alighting at Jag Mandir at the jetty guarded by 8 stone lions, it wasn’t too difficult to imagine the grandeur of this small island and its historical significance when it gave shelter to the Mughal Prince Khurram. After strolling the courtyard, there was nothing nicer than to sit in the columned terraces taking in the breathless view of Udaipur’s City Palace and surrounds sipping on a cool drink... and taking a memento photo for friends.

Ranakpur Overview and Architectural Exterior Views

Built sometime between the 14th and 15th century, the Jain temple represents one of the finest buildings devoted to religious purpose anywhere in the world. There are 1400 columns holding up several domes and a multiple of stories, each column uniquely chiseled marble. The lay out is generally around a central patio area, but visitors will have a hard time determining just what the orlginal floor plan was intended to be. The images here complement the general view found on my introduction to Udaipur, and I have for you a multiple of tips that include more images...

Havelis

Bagore ki Haveli is a palatial structure that was constructed by Amir Chand Badwa, who served as the Prime Minister in the Mewar royal court.
There are more than 100 rooms at Bagore ki Haveli and this stunning architectural wonder was condemned to neglect till the West Zone Culture Centre revamped this captivating architectural splendor in 1986.
There is the queen's personal quarters and gaze in wonderment at the luxurious baths that were constructed especially for the ladies of the royal household. Inside there is a museum that displays a large number of royal household items. See hookahs, regal apparel, utensils, kitchen implements, jewelry boxes, nutcrackers, rose water sprinklers, hand fans etc.
Live cultural performances are organized at the royal courtyard of the Bagore ki Haveli during auspicious occasions that add a romantic appeal to the entire ambience.

Visiting temples

by schlumpf

Walking trough the streets of Udaipur you will have the possibility to visit or simply watch from outside some beautifull hindu temples, for example the Jagdish temple.
As usual, those are also a very touristic place, where you will meet people trying to sell you whatever, or worst, woman with craying kids that as soon as you get near to them they try to make you take a picture to them for money...that’s not so nice in my point of view...
