Bus travel from Jodhpur to Udaipur

by mohanshenoy

What is the travel time for regular luxury buses from Jodhpur to Udaipur for night travel and for day travel separately?

RE: Bus travel from Jodhpur to Udaipur

I don't know, but we drove from Udaiput to Jodhpur via the rolling hills where many tribal people live. I wouldn't go through here at night because you'll miss some great scenery of village life and all.

That is a good question!

I am also wondering the exact same thing, how to find out about daytime buses between Jodhpur and Udaipur. Is there a website with information about buses as there is for trains?

Waiting area for boat trip

by Willettsworld

I had to wait about 30 minutes for the next boat trip and was shown into a covered area nearby where people take a launch (boat) over to the Lake Palace Hotel. This area is rather posh with nice seats and you get the chance to see the posh people pass through!

Maharana Pratap Memorial

by 10753435

Maharana Pratap Memorial is a historic site that is dedicated to the gallant Maharana Pratap. Situated at the top of Moti Margi or Pearl Hill, the memorial overlooks the Fateh Sagar Lake. In Hindi, memorial is known as "smarak" and smarak is always made in the memory of loved ones. Maharana Pratap Memorial was constructed with the initiative taken by Maharana Bhagwat Singh Mewar with the help of a public trust.

The memorial comprises a life-sized bronze statue of Maharana Pratap balanced on his loyal and favorite horse, Chetak. It is believed that Chetak was a faithful horse. He was extremely protective towards Maharana Pratap and stood by his master till his last breath. Chetak was killed in the battle of Haldighati. People visit this memorial to pay their homage to the Rajput hero, Rana Pratap and his loyal mount 'Chetak'.

This outstanding statue has also been picturised for various Bollywood movies. If you are a photographer, then you will truly love this place. From the comfortable height of the hill, you can click some of the best pictures of Udaipur city. One can also visit the attractive Japanese Rock Garden and the remnants of one of the forts of Udaipur, which are located near this hill.

Local Family Portraits Near Nagda Lake

by atufft

During our drive into the Nagda Lake area, I asked the driver to stop so that I could take a short hike up a hill to visit some peasant houses that I saw. My first family wasn't so receptive and grudgingly agreed to take a photo. They didn't really understand what I was doing, I think. A second family though invited me into their home, which has a rustic slate roof, through which I could see daylight. The home was very simple and crude, but the husband was handsome and his wife rather beautiful. At that time, my portrait taking skills with such people with whom I could not communicate were rudimentary, but I managed to get a great shot of this handsome if underfed family. Just as I put a coin into the palm of the woman, the car horn honked and I waved goodbye. The woman and I had struck up a bond of sorts, as she tearfully ran after me pleading me to stay longer. I would like to visit this family again sometime, but chances are I will never have the opportunity.

Monsoon Palace

by lynnehamman

This imposing old Palace stands atop a very high hill , overlooking Udaipur & the surrounding Arrevelli Hills. It was used by the royal family during the monsoon, hence the name, and although it has been neglected, it is worth a visit for the views alone. A good timeto go is around 5 pm, which affords time to wander around the rooms, and look into nooks & crannies. Sunset offers a great photo opportunity.
At night, the Monsoon Palce is flood-lit, and looks like a fairytale. It can be seen sitting high up on the hill from every part of Udaipur.
An auto-rickshaw ride can take about 30 minutes from Udaipur. It is a very steep uphill, but a new scenic road, and the driver will wait.
There are toilet facilities at the Monsoon Palace. Part of the James Bond film Octopussy" was filmed here. These toilet facilities and new road was constructed and paid for by a very wealthy Indian businessman who gave his daughter a huge wedding reception at the Monsoon Palace. The party apparently lasted for a week, and guests were flown in from all over the world. It's a majestic setting.

Take a pedal boat on the Pichola Lake

by tremendopunto

With a pedal boat you get a great view over the lakeshore and its buildings. Especially the Palace frontside and the Jagniwas Island are best right from the water.

BUT the boats are built for small people, it can get hard to push the pedal when tehy are located where your knees are ;-)
