A Stay at the Shiv Niwas Palace

    by

The rooms were absolutely HUGE. Our rooms had a king size poster bed and had a beautiful view of Udaipur. It also overlooked Pichola Lake and the Lake Palace Hotel. Take a walk to the Sunset View Restaurant and watch the sun set over the Lake Palace Hotel!

This hotel is part of the ancient City Palace but was converted to a hotel to help maintain costs. It still has a sense of old history about it. The hotel is really pricey (>300 USD/night) but they really try to make you feel like a Maharaja!

Unique Quality: It's got a nice-sized pool for those who don't want to swim in Pichola Lake. Also, a bagpipe band plays there everyday at 6:30.

Directions: Right next to Lake Pichola overlooking the Lake Palace Hotel.

    beautiful rooms

    by

Stayed in the lake view room . with a view overlooking the lake palace and jagdish tample. Rooms are large & simple. The view from the terrace is worth a million. The palace looks run down from outside. Avoid standard rooms . its not worth paying 4* price. Very good restaurant by the pool. They can arrange a private romantic dinner for you (3000 rupies) with your own cooks, waiters & musicians. Worth every single cents. Look forward to be there again.

Unique Quality: Shiv niwas has a small swimming pool and you can have a candlelit dinner. The food is very good eventhough its a bit expensive.

    Directions: Lake side

Living it up in Udaipur

by DirtyRudy about Shiv Niwas Palace

This hotel is actually part of the City Palace in Udaipur. It was converted into a hotel to help maintain costs, but it still retains its regal sense. Excellent view of the city of Udaipur! The other rooms actually have a view of Lake Pichola and the Lake Palace Hotel! The whole staff was very courteous, and the rooms were huge! They really make you feel like a maharaja!

If you have the chance, try to...

by abusch

If you have the chance, try to book at least one night in one of the former palaces of the maharajas.

In Udaipur , Rajasthan, are two of the finest examples: The Lake Palace (left) and the Shiv Niwas.

Even being one of the most expensive hotels in the area, the price is not that high, if compared to other hotels in the same category.

A standard double room, as described above, cost in average US$ 120 a day, breakfast included. Situated in the middle of Lake Pichola in the former Jag Niwas Palace. The standard rooms have three floors, verandas with breathtaking views and fantastic service. It's a abolutety romantic experience.

The only way to get to the hotel is by boat.

Ideal route for 18 days rajasthan

by JohnFransen

were leaving november 20 for delhi and have 18 days off traveling. Can any one help me to decide what route to take? I'm thinking about

Ajmer
Alwar
Balotra & Kanana
Barmer
Bharatpur
Bikaner
Chittorgarh
Jaipur
Jaisalmer
Jodhpur
Mount Abu
Ranthambor
Nathadwara
Pushkar Fair
Ranthambor
Udaipur

I like Nature, people, adventure, cultur, in a good mix. Defnitly want to spend some time in a wildlife sanc. to find the tiger ;-) Or just for some short hiking trips. Any tips on good and not to expensive hotels are more than welcome. Also about best ways to travel between the picked places. (better than the lonely planet).
What to is absl to be seen and what can I mis.

Thanks for your answers.

John

Hi there,
I just came back from an india trip. This is our itenerary and I highly recommend you to visit following places.

1) Jaipur (Amber fort and palace) (Accomodation: Holiday Inn)

2) Udaipur (lake palace and more palaces) (Accomodation: Shiv Niwas Palace (expensive))

3) Agra (of course, you can't miss Taj Mahal, and Fatepur Sikri) (Accomodation: JayPee Hotel (average and clean!))

4) Delhi

I have a reference book published by Berlizt (British publisher??) and that's a great reference book!

For an 18 day trip don't try to cover too much just take it easy and enjoy each place.
The route can be like this:
1. Jaipur (2 days)
2. Ajmer/Pushkar( 1 day)
3. Sawai Madhopur & Ranthambore wild life santuary (tiger reserve) ( 3-4 days)
4. Udaipur (2-3 days) [this will cover chittorgarh etc]
5. Jodhpur (2 days)
6. Jaiselmer (2 days)
7. Bikaner( 1-2 days)
8. Shekhawati region (1day) [on the way]
9 Bharatpur bird santuary (1-2 days)
10. Agra & Fathehpur sikri( 1-2 days)

Best way to travel is by car. will not cost much if you are in group of 2 or more.
