Most romantic hotel

A resplendent creation in marble sparkling amid the calm waters of the Lake Pichola, (Udaipur), is an ideal getaway for those with a penchant for everything rare and extravagant. Built under the patronage of Maharana Jagat Singh, this erstwhile summer residence of the rulers of Mewar is over two and a half centuries old. Arrive at The Lake Palace Hotel, Udaipur by boat. Leave behind the mundane. Relax in your royal nook. Venture out and take your time believing the panoramic view. Celebrate the artistry of slender carved columns and delicately filigreed screens. Indulge in the delectable fare from the kitchens of our skilled chefs. Have the time of your life.

The Lake Palace Hotel Lake Palace, Udaipur, originally known as Jag Niwas, was built in 1754 by Maharana Jagat Singh II who gave his name to this elegant building. Originally built as a cool summer retreat for the royal family, it is now a modern luxury hotel. This expansive building covers an area of about four acres including beautiful tress and gardens. The suites in the old part of the palace are spectacular - coloured glass windows, cool white marble and mosaic work are amongst some of the treasures on which to feast your eyes.

Unique Udaipur experience

The hotel is located in the middle of a man-made lake in Udaipur. The Taj group recently renovated the hotel, providing modern amenities while maintaining the romantic charm of this unique location. For dinner one night, we ate on the palace boat while touring the lake that the royal family used over 100 years ago. A rare experience with a first class and very attentive hotel staff.

Unique Quality: The palace is located in the middle of a large lake and commands views of the city and other palace locations.

Maharaja-feeling from dawn to dusk

Already when looking at the Lake-Palace Hotel one seems to be in a fairytale:about 500m distant from the shore in the city center of Udaipur, a small boat is taking the guests to the Palace-Hotel, where you will be greeted with a necklace of flowers and a cold drink.
Conceived in romance, the palace was built in 1746 by Maharana Jagat Singh II, 62nd successor to the royal dynasty of Mewar – believed to be descendants of the Sun God
Everything here seems to be a bit unreal, the palace-rooms, refurbished and functioning now as lobby, library and restaurant as well as the beautiful guest rooms in typical indian style. A very special experience is the palace garden with its many tropical flowers and the restaurant, facing the garden. The whole structure is made of white marble. A special experience the modern swimming-pool with its own small park in lush green colours.
The only thing one has to get accostumed with áre the 1000s of blackbirds, occupying the whole garden from subset to the next early morning, creating an unbelievable noise !

Unique Quality: Unparalleled location in the middle of Lake Pichola, Udaipur

Beautiful women scattered rose petals at our feet!

In October 2004 our only complaint was that the lake was rather low. But that enabled us to race our camels across the lake bed! Most excellent service.

Be sure to take a day trip to the beautiful Jain temple at Ranakpur.

Unique Quality: A beautiful marble palace in the middle of a lake.

Lake Palace, the Taj Hotel in Udaipur

The Lake Palace is one of the most beautiful palaces in the world, arising out of the Turquoise Waters of the Pichola like an elegant fantasy in white marble. The palace was built in the 17th century on a natural foundation of 4 acers of rock. It was initially called Jaginwas after its founder Maharana Jagjit Singh . The Maharana, ruler of Jaipur from 1628 to 1654, was very friendly with Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan and encouraged his craftsmen to copy some of the glories of his incomparable buildings at Agra. The successive rulers used this cool haven as their

summer resort, holding their regal durbars in its courtyards. These courtyards lined with columns, pillared terraces, fountains and gardens all add to its impressive image. The rooms are decorated with cusped arches, inland stones of pink, and green lotus leaves and painted mirrors. apartments like the Bada Mahal, Kush Mahal, Ajjan Niwas, Phool Mahal and Dhola Mahal. All enhance the romance of the elegant setting. Among the facilities available are swimming pool, conference hall and a bar. Other events of recreation organised here are excursions in and around and a bar other events of recreation organised here are excursions in and around Udaipur .

Unique Quality: Lake Palace houses 84 rooms including 17 beautiful suites and 53 Deluxe rooms. The rooms and the suites of the hotel are beautifully designed; each having a particular theme & decorated with textiles and handicrafts of the region. The royal banquet rooms are now reception rooms, bars and restaurants. Apartments names the Bada Mahal, Khush Mahal, Sajjan Niwas, Phool Mahal and the Dhola Mahal add to the romantic setting and give a taste of the regal splendor of a bygone era , they also boast of a Restaurant, a coffee shop and a well appointed lobby with jewellery and souvenir shops. More about Taj Lake Palace

World's #1 Hotel

by Chiliweenie about Floating Lake Palace

The Taj Lake Palace is a place created in dreams. It is truely a magical oasis. The complete structure is built of white marble, walls, floors, ceilings. It was built by a maharaja, who still owns the palace, situated in a man made lake. The Taj Hotel chain leases the building and has done a superb job, not only with upkeep, but with the quality of service. Its the #1 hotel in the world, no doubts. Rooms are decorated in sheer fabrics and most rooms have excellent views across the lake to Udaipur. If your tour allows, spend AT LEAST 3 nights here. It will be the high light of your trip. Excellent views, beautiful pool area, best massage center I've come across to date, food is outstanding (although expensive).

is there a dining facility in taj lake palace for tourists who want to enjoy food but r not residing in taj lake palace....................

Re: dining

Absolutely! The Lake Palace Hotel is my favorite in Udaipur, and I encourage anyone to go and have a close look at it, even if they don't stay there. The Shiv Nivas Hotel right across from the Lake Palace is also a top property with very nice restaurants.

Although one of the lesser Bond films, "Octopussy" was filmed in great part in Udaipur, anf the Lake Palace was used as the main villain's lair. Rent it and enjoy the look at the hotel. Although, from what I hear now, the film is played on a contiuous loop in every bloody bar and restaurant in Udaipur.

I have stayed at the Lake Palace several times and loved every minute of it.

Here is a site that describes all the restaurants in the Lake Palace.....
