Travel Tips for Udaipur

Washing/bathing at Gangaur Ghat

by Willettsworld

Wherever you find water in India, you're bound to find people washing clothes or themselves in it! As Udaipur is situated right beside the huge Lake Pichola, you'll find both customs being practiced.

Jag Mandir - a water palace on Pichola Lake

by Luchonda

This older water palace - near Jag Niwas - built in 1620 played an important role in the history of Udaipur.
The Mugahl Prince - Khurram exiled by his father chose to seek refuges, like the Rana of Mewar
The picture shows the entrance to the temple.

Palace Boats and Others

by keeweechic

Off the foreshore in front of the Palace you will see some of the Palace boats. The Palace rowboat in blue and red is not used for that many occasions. During the 1990’s Udaipur made history when the first solar boats were introduced on Lake Pichola.

Boat-rides on Lake Pichola are available throughout the day until late in the evenings. You can find the Boat centre at Bansi Ghat which will provides information and assistance for boat-rides and bird-watching.

The Complex

by keeweechic

The Palace is a combination of Mughal-style decorative and Rajput military architecture with a fortress-like façade coupled with decorative and attractive balconies, turrets and cupolas. The complex is made up of smaller palaces, a museum, hotel as well as the resident of the present Maharaja.

Jagdish Temple

by atufft

In the middle of Udaipur is a particularly precious temple of modest size, but wonderfully chiseled and worn dieties and elephants in stone that is beautifully veined. Out front, I took a photo of a swami. At the time of our visit the exterior was undergoing restoration, and so I took a photo of the bamboo scaffold.
