Women's Duties in the Aravalli Range
by atufft
Actually, it's the young girls who do the laundry using water from the irrigation ditch. On the one hand, it appears that these families toil hard for a subsistance living, on the other hand, when visiting their homes, they seem to have plenty of time to share.
Close-up of Eklingi Ghats
by atufft
The Ghats themselves are a place of social activity. The men and women bathe separately along the marble steps leading down to the water. One woman showed me the extensive nature of the steps built around the lake, showing me that privacy on the lake is possible. I am of course voyeur to their personal activities and provide here images taken with the telephoto that don't reveal the identity of my subjects in order to retain their privacy. You go and see for yourself.
MEMORY OF MOUNTAINS
by pravdr about ARAVALLI
well had a nice experience of having an early morning breakfast. the spread was selective not too lavish but good in quality the seating arrangements were excellent. the views from the restaurant overlooking the swimming pool with the aravalli mountains in the background is stupendous. the bright light can be sometimes disconcerting due to the glare. the evening time is magical with the swimming pool lit up and the ambience is very romantic. buffett breakfast
Bagore-ki-Haveli Museum
by Willettsworld
After 5 years of restoration work (which you can still witness a room which has been left un-restored), this haveli was converted into a museum. The sitting room, bedroom, bathroom, entertainment room, music room, worship room, kitchen etc depict how the palace would have looked during the 19th century. Some of the rooms are beautifully decorated with furniture and fittings whilst others feature so lovely wall paintings of elephants and such like.
Open: 10am-7pm. Admission: Rs25 and Rs10 for camera charge.
Kumbhalgarh Fortress
by Skibbe
Impressive 15th century fort surrounded by a 22 mile wall, the second longest in the world, that covers 13 mountain peaks. It was only conquered once and that was when their water supply was poisoned. Unfortunately, some of my food the night before must have been poisoned because I went out there not feeling well and never made it all the way up the steep climb to the fortress.
