Very good value for money
This hotel in Egmore is only 3 years old. It has a 4-star rating. It is a very impressive establishment with professional service and excellent rooms. The rooms have an electronic safe, plasma TV, modern bathroom, air conditioning which can be set in your room.
Room service and laundry service is very good.
Very good value for money.
Rates (January 2008) = Ind Rs 3200 per night (inclusive of all taxes)
Unique Quality: Small business centre with Internet etc

Comfortable Comfort Inn
I stayed in this hotel in July 2006. The hotel is in the heart of Chennai just 10 minutes away from the Railway station. Although close to 15 kms from the airport, the hotel is accessible to all the places in the city. This is a 3 star hotel, the staff is pleasant and helpful. The rooms are big and although in some rooms TV's are quite small and far from the bed, still the rooms are neat and comfortable. It has a multi-cusine restaurant called "Seven", the food is good and the service is fast and good. There are facilities for conferences and there is a banquet hall as well. Taxi's and Autorickshaws are available just outside in the parking and the bell boys are particularly helpful in bargaining and setting rates for you. Overall it was a pleasant stay.

Decent hotel's in Madras,
My wife, myself and our 5 year old daughter will be coming to Chennai in the second week of July. We have to go to the American Consulate on mount road. We will be coming by train reaching Chennai around 10 pm. We want to stay in a decent hotel, our budget is Rs. 1,500 to Rs. 2,000 per night. The location should be close to either the railway station or the American consulate. It should not be too far away from the railway station so that we don't have to travel a long distance in the night since we are not familiar with Chennai at all. What would be our best bet to get to this hotel, by auto or taxi or bus ? Please recommend some hotels and how we can book them ? Thank you.

If you want to stay near American consulate then hotel Ranjith would the best option. American consulate is just 100 meters from there.
If you want to stay near station then u have lots of option. But I would suggest you to stay near to American consulate.

Hotels close to the station i.e. Egmore as well as Chennai Central would be Beverly Hotel or Comfort Inn Marina Towers. Check google for their exact site address. Beverly is about 2000 Rs double inclusive of breakfast and is a great place to stay. Ditto for Comfort Inn. I was there for a week. About 7 mins from Chennai Central. The American Mission is located about 15 mins by rickshaw from there. I dont recall the exact address but it is some Salai. The mission is at the intersection of mount road I think. Good luck with your visas.

hi In chennai you dont have the to book the hotels in advance almost they r available. Its better you stay near the railway station the place called EGMORE and the road KENNET LANE. you found lots of hotels on this road.
Once when u this lane look for SINGAPORE LODGE and book for A/C room, Decent and within your budget. There are also expensive hotels just look around the street you found plenty of hotels. from here american consulate is just 4 KM. you can by Auto RICKSHAW.
