The Residency Towers

We stayed just the one night, but it was comfortable and conveniently located.

Unique Quality: Restaurants-

`Main street' (italian etc) They have a buffet too. Seems rather busy during meal times, and service can be a little slow. The ambience and decor is an eclectic mix of stuff

`Southern spice', the restaurant serving local-south Indian cuisine.

`Bike and Barrel', the popular pub... (see restaurant tip)

Bharata Natyam

by kkrishnan48

I will be in staying in Chennai from 29 Oct to 1 Nov at Kamal Inn Rangan st. I like to see beautiful Bharatanatyam dances, pubs with good music, good veg and non veg food etc. Can you please advice me.

Try and check out Kalakshetra for dance program schedule. (kalakshetra.net).

Zara Tapas Bar is a nice pub in Chennai. It is on Cathedral Road, right opposite Hotel Maris.

You can also check out Bike and Barrel at the Residency Towers in T. Nagar.

Food:
Amazing veg food at the restaurant in Hotel Ashoka, Egmore. You can also check out the number of Saravana Bhavans around the city. Little Italy on Nungambakkam High Road for veg Italian.

Depending on the kind of non-veg food you like, you can check out Sparky's Diner (American/Mexican/Italian/Cajun) on East Spur Tank Road, Opposite Palimar Restaurant, Chetpet; Mainland China on Sterling Rd for Chinese, Ponnuswamy in Egmore for Chettinad, Karaikudi also for Chettinad on Radha Krishnan Salai or in T. Nagar. Buhari on Mount Road for Biryani; Cedars on Wallace Garden Road, Nungambakkam for Lebanese.

Where do you plan to stay in Chennai? Can recommend restaurants near by.

Just noticed that you had mentioned you are staying in Rangan Street, T. Nagar.

All the places mentioned aren't too far away from T. Nagar. The closest ones are Bike and Barrel at the Residency Towers. There's a Saravana Bhavan restaurant on Venkat Narayana Road. You can also check out Andra Mess on Pondy Bazaar Road for some tasty, spicy non-veg food. Have their meals, and order fish fry or something like that.

Kalakshetra could be a bit far from there. It is in Sashtri Nagar.

Also, check if there are any programs in Narada Gnana Sabha on G.N. Chetty Road in T. Nagar.

10, Downing Street is also a nice pub. It is close to the Residency Towers.

Pelita on Pondy Bazaar rd serves some nice Indo-Malaysian food. I like their Ais Coffee/Ais Milo. Chicken curry and parotta is good too. You can have banana parotta as dessert. It is nice.

you need to keep in touch with the sabha's in chennai to book the tickets since december is the peak season for these events , chennai does not have such good eat outs esspecially PUBS compared to B'lore but you can try some really good places like , BIKES N BARRELS in Residency towers T-nagar, SPARKS , GEofferey in radha parkin, biryanibox.com for traditional biryani service, onlinfeast.com etc
