Get the villa!

This place was the way to go in ending our tour of southern India. We stayed for three nights. We were given an ocean villa for the first night, and then were switched to an ocean cottage for the second two nights. They wouldn't let us keep the ocean villa, saying it was booked, and we had to move.
The villa was spectacular. The ocean cottage was less grand but still very nice. However, our room ( villa #6) had a partial view of the restaurant. Of the four windows, two looked onto the restaurant, and two viewed the ocean. Our children's cottage had a full view of the ocean.
The room service was HORRIBLE. I had to call down to have my beds made ( 2 PM) each day. My children had to do the same. The pool was nice, but it's cleanliness varied daily.
We only ate breakfast there, and the food was excellent. However, the service varied as well.
My friends had an ocean view room in the main hotel, which was nice, but they complained that they didn't even get turn down service, and that the room was "barely made up" when the attendant did bother to come. If you really want a memorable experience, splurge and get either the villas or the ocean cottages ( just not villa #6)
FYI, there is an orphanage located in Mamallapuram which we happened on by accident. If you are in the area, stop by and give the children what you can. There are 50 children, many of which lost their parents in the Tsunami ( 186, Fisherman Colony, Mamallapuram, [--]
Good experience

We were recommended this hotel by a specialist travel agent in Paris.
They seemed to consider that this was the best place to stay on the coast between Chennai and Mahabaliupuram...and in my experience, their judgement is always really sound.
I can't say that we were overawed by Fisherman's Cove, but you will almost be assured of having a good time there. You're guaranteed good service as it's part of the Taj group. Plus, the setting and location on the beach are great.
We stayed in a sea-facing room in the main building (not in one of the cottages). The design was nothing to write home about, but there was nothing to complain about either. The room was a good size, everything worked well and it was really clean.
We used the Internet connection a number of times and each time, things worked well and the staff were really helpful. The food in the main Seagull restaurant was not that fantastic. We preferred the seafood Bay View Point restaurant, which is well situated—right on the beach. Just be sure not to be in a rush, because the service is not particularly snappy.
The pool area is well landscaped. The only gripe that we had was the fact that they don't have mattresses for all the sunbeds. So, some people are expected to laze directly onto the wooden lattes of the beds—not the most comfortable thing in the world and you can't help thinking that it can't be too complicated for them to buy another 10 mattresses so that everyone can be at ease.
Great Location & Good Service

Booked Sea View Villa for a 2N/3D holiday thru the hotel's Apex Offer. Our family of 4 (incl. 2 kids) landed at the property in the afternoon. Check-in was swift and we were welcomed with cold towels, cool drinks and a nice bead garland.
We were taken to our villa in a battery operated buggy immediately. The room was well made up and ready for our use. Amenities included Coffee/Tea maker and also a French Press. I was not familiar with the French Press and the staff obligingly demonstrated the use of this implement and brewed a nice coffee for us.
Used the pool in the evening. The pool is shallow (4 ft. deep) and hence the water was almost hot. They had water polo nets and also a water throw-ball net and balls.
Dinner was in the Sea Gull restaurant which serves dinner buffet. Reasonable choice of food. Breakfast was better with choice of fresh fruits, fresh juices, yogurts, breads, cheese, cereals, hot cooked food and a expresso machine. Staff were extremely attentive and courteous.
The toilets in the villa were huge with bathtub & shower + a separate
shower cubicle, closet, bidet and large washbasin counter. The toiletries were of good quality (Biotique).
Aircondition in the cottage was not sufficient and we had to use the overhead fan also. The TV was new and had satellite TV Channels (no ESPN / STAR SPORTS )
The view from the villa outside was terrific, with the sea a hop-skip and jump away. You could take long, leisure walks in the beach.
We did not use the other speciality restaurants and hence no comments on them. Ditto for the Spa.
Overall we were very happy with the resort and would not hesitate to go there again.
Great service

Great service in every aspect - treat yourself to a cottage - either garden view or beach view - both are good - and the large outside showers are fantastic. Good choice of food in 3 different restaurants. Spa offers great services - prices aren't too bad. But beware of using hotel taxis - 4 times the price of local cars - and really not worth it.
Not worth the money

I stayed here for several weeks for a business trip. The service is very good but the rooms are not great. There are constant bugs and flys in your room and I even had a cute little friend...yes a lizard in my room. Someone else found a roach in their room. The internet is poor it's very over priced and only works half the time. When I called down to the front desk for help they sent someone up but still did not work very well at all. When I asked for some credit back on my bill for the poor internet service they ignored me.
Trying to relax at the pool is hard because you are constantly fighting off flys.If you want to walk along the beach you really can't because there is a local there that bugs you and won't let up for you to buy something from him. I can't believe the hotel let's him bother their guests like that, they work hard at keeping stray dogs away how about trying to get rid of this local bugging you for money and clothes? The service starts off good when you get there but as you get closer to your stay, it drops off drastically. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. If I travel to India again I would NOT stay here, not worth the money or time. Try the Sheraton in town, I have heard many good things about it!
