Damp, mouldy and seen better days
by A TripAdvisor Member
The Park Chennai looks impressive when you drive up to it, the reception staff make you feel valued, particularly if you are a Starwood cardholder, but the hotel goes down hill as soon as you leave reception. The corridors have old, tired and damp smelling carpets. The Executive room I had smelt damp, the bathroom was dirty and the extractor fan in the bathroom didn't work. This gave the overall room a damp and mouldy smell. The staff were keen to point out the leather, electric massage chair in every room - there were far more important features to fix in the hotel than this. The Executive Club on the "27th Floor" (actually around the sixth floor), was not bad and the finger food served with the complimentary drinks was good enough. Breakfast was standard Western fare. Unlike other reviewers the bed was comfortable and the sheets clean and dry. Overall not very good value for money, but not totally dire.
Hotel got better through the stay

Travelled to Chennai on Business with two colleges and stayed at the Park for a week. The positives are that it is a nice hotel with good food, very nice pool and fairly busy (if very dark) bar area. We stayed all week and not one of us had a bad stomack - big plus.
The large evening bar bill may have helped kill off any bugs. Be very careful about drinking wine in any hotel in Chennai, basic cost is high, double what we'd expect from decent UK hotel and then there is an extra 73% tax making the bill extremely high, stick with the beer.
The rooms are small for 4/5 star delux rooms. All three of us felt that the sheets were musty. One college didn't think their bathroom was that clean.
The hotel has a good location and is very good value for money. Traffic noise anywhere in Chennai will be heard, all vehicles use their horns as much as their brakes, traffic is just amazing, rush hour should be avoided, its much worse than many capital cities I've visited.
The hotel air-con is a bit too cool for my liking, but there is a nice patio area off the reception near the bar, great for a late drink on a warm evening.
I started off not liking the hotel, but the good food and reasonable atmosphere brought me round. Service was very good except for the speed of delivering drinks by pool was slow.
If you want a bit more pampering then try the Coromandel just down the road, but it costs more. Also recommended to me was the Residency Towers (great roof top restaurant and one of the best bars), may try this next time.
Bollywood Boutique Hotel

I stayed here on a very short layover in Chenai. After a very long flight, the room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The hotel has a unique concept: Boutique hotel with a Bollywood feel. There are posters from older Bollywood movies in all the rooms and throughout the hotel. I'd definately stay here again.
Damp And Smelly Rooms
by TripAdvisor Member JOCELYN_7
Myself and a collegue stayed at this hotel on a business trip. The outside of the hotel and the reception look very modern and the hotel looks recently built. However the rooms were appauling. The smell of mold hits you as you walk through the door. The paint was crumbling in the bathroom and had obviously been painted over. The room was very dirty and the floor was badly scratched and the rugs filthy. The worst was the beds- the bed was so soft that your body sank into it and the sheets were so damp that I couldn't sleep in them- I ended up sleeping in my clothes on top of the bed. The hotel was also very noisy. This is postively the worst place I have ever stayed in and would strongly recommend that you don't stay here unless you want to become ill. Having spoken since to other collegues working in India, they say that they have complained several times but the hotel has not improved at all and now will never stay there.
Bad service - rooms damp!

Room not ready on arrival even though it was pre-booked and it was after 6pm. Bathroom wall was damp, only 1 bathrobe for double occupancy, had to request twice to get enough towels and a 2nd robe. Bathroom amenities were missing on the 1st night and mini bar had not been replenished. No non-smoking areas in bars or lobby! Spa, pool and gym were excellent though - but don't stay here for the rooms unless you have no other choice
Trendy, but Toxic
by TripAdvisor Member travelquist
The hotel couldn't find our reservation, even though we paid for and reserved our room on the hotel website. Suite was moldy smelling, broken marble tile in shower, no CD player to mask the loud honking horns outside the room, construction banging going on the floor above. The lounges reaked of smoke, and the downstairs lobby filled with smoke from the "health bar" . Hallways smelled of terrible toxic fumes that made us sick. We called to speak to the manager, he never returned our call. Only nice experience was getting a massage in their serene spa, where they had soft music playing to mask the traffic sounds.
