The Gateway Hotel Pasumalai Madurai

A former governors residence, the Madurai Taj Garden Retreat is now one of the beautifuil, (but somewhat run down) Heritage hotels. It overlooks the city of Madurai and its famous Menakshee-Temple, so one can hear the holy songs, drums and chants day and night from afar.
The hotel is located on top of a hill in a big tropical garden, very secluded from the usual hustle and bustle of an indian town.
Nice, oldfashioned rooms in colonial style with all the amenities one would expect, good service and, above all, the unique position overlooking the whole town.
The restaurant in colonial / indian style is a bit oldfashioned, but offers nice food and breakfast-buffets as well as 5-o`clock drinks in open air (as long as the mosquitoes allow)
