Lotus-eating on the Vennar
I don't think I've ever stayed in a nicer hotel than the Ideal River Resort. Its only drawback is that it's a couple of miles out of town - or is this its main advantage? What it offers makes the distance worthwhile - wonderful grounds, excellent rooms and food. All for about 25 Euro. Do I recommend it? YES!
Unique Quality: Cottages; well-maintained pool; beautiful grounds set inside an organic farm, the source of most of the food; very clean - even the ice cubes are made from bottled water - spacious well-screened rooms; internet access; excellent South Indian and Sri Lankan cuisine, bacon and eggs at breakfast if you insist (but try the idlis first, you'll be a convert in no time). Oh, and you can try out ayurvedic massage if you're not going on to Kerala.
They call this a two-star hotel??
