Hotel Parisutham: On the higher end

This is a higher-end hotel off the main road but within (longish) walking distance of the Brahadeswara Temple and the Thanjavur Palace/museums. Rooms are decent and clean; garden and pool areas are lovely. The restaurant was good, and the onsite gem and souvenir shops didn’t seem too outrageously priced. The staff was quite helpful in arranging auto transport, among other things. Onsite services include an Ayurvedic massage center with a great menu, and random cultural programs in the garden that are probably arranged for individual tour groups passing through.

My one gripe: we arrived early in the morning, and weren’t told we would be charged for another full night for checking in before noon. We were able to negotiate a reduced rate, but I think we still overpaid for the extra few hours. Also, someone from the hotel booked two subsequent hotels for us, neither of which had our reservations when we arrived.

This hotel appears to cater to large-scale European tour groups and we were lucky to get a room on short notice. Best to book ahead during the high season.

Sangam Hotel: Not to be recommended

Although Sangam Hotel is said to be a good hotel,I would rather stay elsewhere, if possible.
Rather dirty and somewhat filthy rooms, restaurant less than basic (and closed after 8pm, at least when we tried to get something to eat) and relatively expensive, compared to the standard offered.

Unique Quality: See above; centrally located near the Brahadeeswara Temple.

Hotel Sangam: Dinner near the pool

For dinner the kind staff put up a table near the swimming pool. The inside restaurant has kind of chinese decoration and looks a bit cold. We had dinner in the Sangam hotel in Tiruchirappalli which is much nicer.
I appreciated especially the excellent and quick laundry and dry cleaning service.
The hotel also has a very nice souvenir shop with an assortment of souvenirs and jewelry.

Unique Quality: The other facilities include 24-hr Room service, Safe Deposit Lockers, Money Exchange, Secretarial Services, Car Rentals, a Travel Agency and Doctor on Call.
