Temperatures in the Nilgiri Hills drop to zero in winter evenings ~ the huts are not heated overnight ~ and rock beds do not conserve heat. It was a terribly long night.
The benefit of being half-awake most of the night meant that I was up early in the morning, with the first stirrings of our Toda hut-mates. The fire was put on as soon as they were awake, to begin food preparations, and I took advantage of the opportunity with one of my tourmates to go out for a walk in the hilly areas that we hadn't explored the day before. Kluney Manor is in the old English-style, Indian-highlands get-away. The bedrooms are large, with sitting rooms and good baths. The staff was professional and attentive. Menus are extensive, with choices of local Indian, Chinese and Western cuisines. TV in room, heater available if needed, comfortable beds.

Reflections Guest House is actually ranked high on most travel guide books for its good service and room rate. The house takers are friendly and breakfast can be arranged and they even have very informative guest books for you to browse for attractions at Ooty.
I cannot remember whether rooms have air conditioning, but you don't really need one at Ooty.

Located just behind the Mysore Maharaja's summer palace, this set of cottages and rooms are built in british style, complete with red and white paint works with a nice view of the tea gardens and lined by coniferous trees. The cottages are just perfect with a fireplace and a Plasma tv, ideal for lazing in the evenings! :)
Do not miss trying the masala tea! It is simply superb esp in the early morning mist!

We reached pretty late and didn't have a long stay.But for the short period, we found things are all in order and real professional staff too.
Good location for people who are coming by public transport.
Rooms were clean and good toilets.
Have a good restaurant serves Indian, South Indian and Chinese cuisine.

This lovely, friendly guesthouse overlooks the lake to the west of the town centre. It's well located for the train station but a bit of a walk to get into the main town area, especially when you want to eat in the evening plus it's a little quiet in this part of town at night. To get over this, the guesthouse has a menu of simple dishes which do the trick and you can eat and talk to fellow travellers in the main common room. There's also a lounge with a TV. The guesthouse also others a few trekking tours and I went on one around the tea plantations and hill villages.
For the first night of the three I stayed there, I had a room in the main house near the entrance but then moved to a better room in a block at the back up the hill. Here I had 2 single beds pushed together, 2 plastic chairs, bedside table, mirror, and hot water via a geyser between 6.30-9am. My room cost Rs400.
