Sheela Hotel by diageva We stayed here 3 nights. Is like a paradise in the middle of the chaos at the very entrance of Taj Mahal. Sheela is a little hotel, with rooms around a garden where you can have a good breakfast or eat something or just rest. You will be surrounded here by animals like monkeys and peaceful and a beautiful vegetation. I must warning you that as you get out of the door you will be surrounded by sellers and rickshaw drivers, cause you are just in at the door of the Taj where all the sellers try to sell theirs things. As when we went there were no tourist all those sellers came over us every time we get out the hotel … just keep the calm The rooms were good enought and clean comparing to all what we saw. For the price you pay is the best option just in the best place.
The rooms are wide. The bathroom have everything very old is not dirty, just oxidized. The cooler are terrible because they make a great noise. Well all these things are normal. The place is fantastic and you will fill really you are at paradise despite all this things Very Satisfied for the money we paid. 350 R. per night with cooler and bathroom Theme: HotelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: Hotel Sheela. When we first booked our stay at the Trident, it was called the Trident Hilton, and was (duh) a Hilton property. A few weeks after I made our reservations via hotels.com (we got a great price that way), it changed hands to the prestigious Oberoi group. It appears that Oberoi has bought Hilton out on their Indian Trident properties as part of a move to increase Oberoi's first-class (versus super deluxe luxury) hotel footprint. The Tridents are an excellent way to do this. Speaking for a minute about prices, two things. As I say, I booked through hotels.com, and got a great deal. We paid slightly over $100 per night per room for very nice rooms. Now, my understanding is that Oberoi is now pricing these rooms for more like $160 per night - which is still a good deal for so nice of a hotel so close to the Taj Mahal area. I just wanted to clear up any pricing changes from my tip. Bottom line, you'd have to spend twice as much money in Agra to find a "better" hotel. And to tell you the truth, spending such money would really just get you "more expensive" and a little fancier. This is the place you want to stay. The Trident itself is an oasis of peace, quiet and excellent service. It's so clean and well-maintained that it literally shines, and since so much of the hotel's public space is glass, that is a never-ending job. They're constantly cleaning glass at the Trident. As for the peace and quiet issue, it's amazing... the hotel is literally at the edge of a very busy and noisy street, Fatehabad Road. (which is also called Taj Road) And yet, as soon as you go pass through the walls into the Trident's grounds, everything is quiet and relaxing. The decor is modern minimalist, done in hues of gold and black. There are many uses of quality marble throughout, in keeping (I guess with Agra's long history of marble work). The rooms themselves are ulta modern... excellent hot water, quality and comfortable beds, and well-functioning air conditioning. And, if you need anything and call the desk, they'll simply say "don't worry sir, we are sending a boy" and BAM - there he is in about two minutes. They'll have a heart attack if you even try to carry your own suitcases or even open a public door for yourself. These guys are all about service. You will enjoy your stay here. One thing, during my communications directly with the hotel, I had occasion to correspond with and later meet the hotel's general manager, Mr. Vishal Barti. He was most helpful and attentive. If you choose to book with and stay at the Trident, please take a moment to say hello to Vishal. Please tell him that Peter Chamlis from Tallahassee, Florida sent you, and that I said hello. He's a very nice man. BTW, his email address is vishal.bharti@tridenthotels.com. And his other contact information is Tel: +91 562 2235000 | Facsimile : +91 562 2331812.
The Trident is an excellent value in Agra. The rooms are, even at the new Oberoi pricing scheme, incredibly comfortable. If you can, get a pool view room, which look out onto the rock garden/waterfall grounds. Very peaceful. Speaking of pools, they have a very nice one at the Trident. There always seemed to be a bunch of Germans using it. I stopped by a few times and practiced my German with them. There is also a business center where you can use the internet terminals for something like 200 Rs/hour. (This is maybe $4) I understand that they also have wireless throughout the hotel, but I didn't have my laptop and therefore didn't use it. I don't know if it's free or not. There is a good restaurant. The food is well-prepared and very enjoyable... and the service. Top notch, and yet very friendly. This is a place where they wait on your hand and foot, and yet you don't mind. :) We had breakfast buffet there each day, and we enjoyed sampling some of the Indian breakfast items. They also have American and continental style items for your AM enjoyment. There's also a bar, which serves both drinks and light snacks. One afternoon, we had a couple of beers (drinking them outside in a covered walkway near the pool). We decided to have a little snack, and we chose a real winner. It was spicy-batter fried bekti (a local fish) with a wonderful mint chutney dipping sauce. It was a perfect choice, give it a whirl if you're there. The doorman (see photo) was such a pleasant guy, we enjoyed chatting with him on every occasion that our paths crossed.

Hotel Sheela by zumodemango This hotel is 5 minutes from the East gate entrance to Taj Majal. It is very quite and relax after all the noise and heat. In the garden there is a swing. The people in the hotel are quite nice and helpful. The price is 350RS per person and some rupees more if you prefer room with air cooler. it's very clean and they provide soap and sheets but I recommend your own sheet, in general just in case. We chosed the hotel because it's close to the Taj Majal but it's also close to Taj Ganj.
In this hotel all the rooms are ground floor. Part of them, are in front of a garden, we were in the other side cause we prefer to have air cooler(horrible noise, like a motor plane) because it was really hot(when i say really hot , it's reaaally hot). There is a big garden where you can eat or have breakfast. From the garden you can see Taj domes(very little but it's possible), after the garden there is a "jungle". Some monkeys go to see your food but i prefer the dogs .Two nice dogs, one is very friendly called friendly and the other Tiger. The area is close to cars...due to contamination so to get to the hotel is only possible by cicloricksaw or ricksaw or special cars.

by schlumpf Before to choose the restaurant or even the Guesthouse, check twice. If it is not enought, check the third and the fourth time. I decided to overnight in a very “beautifull??!!” Guesthouse, ohh well, it appears beautifull...the view offered by the GH was amazing, from the terrace I had the Taj Mahal 100% in front of me and com’on this GH was suggested also from some of the most popular indipendent travel guides...so, all was ok.. Well, when I got back in the night, my room was completely fullfilled of huuuuuuge mosquitos (not properly mosquitos, huge animals with some wings) and I could definitely not stay in the room... I had a lot of trouble with the GH has they refused to give me another accomodation, as I had payd (as they said) for that room...and what tha hrell does it mean???! At the end, I slept on the flor, and the day after I admired my beautifull Taj Mahal view from the terraces. Check properly the room! There are a lot of cheap GH in the Taj Ganj block of Agra, where from the terrace you got an amazing view of the Taj Mahal, but before to decide check oproperly your room! Again, we stayed at the Trident in Agra, and were very satisfied. I really wasn't looking for more budget accommodations on our trip. However, I know that a lot of people on VT are interested in finding bargains options for lodging. From what I saw externally of the Hotel Sheela, located 800 meters from the east gate of the Taj Mahal, it may be a good choice. The Rough Guide to India claims that the restaurant at the hotel is dependably hygienic, but I can't say anything to that end. The hotel does look to be acceptably safe and clean to my eye. If saving money is a necessity on your Indian journey, this is where I'd look to reside during my time in Agra. When you look at the photos below, please note... the picture of the Sheela is from THEIR website. The photo is, to my recollection, an accurate look at the hotel entrance. The other photo is one that I took of the Taj Road. In this photo, I am probably standing about in front of the Sheela, and am looking back at the East Gate of the Taj Mahal. This lets you see the neighborhood. The Sheela seems to be a secure and clean place. As for the neighborhood, it'd be OK by day... I'm not sure I'd wander around alone at night. If you want to go into Agra, do take a cab. :)

There are plenty of possibilities to stay in the Taj Ganj quarter, but the closest you can get with your bed to the Taj Mahal is the Hotel Sheela. Situated just some meters away from the east gate of the Taj, it offers double room huts. The best thing is that it is in the more quiet part of Taj Ganj - with parks? - at least a lot of "green stuff" around it, but still so close to the dizzling alleys that you have both. Our room went with "shared" ants, though, and Omed was afraid to harm his Karma, so he really carried all ants out of the room ALIVE! Plus some powder in front of the hut and all problems were gone - and Omed got some really good chances for becoming a saint..... Ah, by the way, this pic below, that reminds a little bit of a romatic candle light dinner was actually due to another power fall out.....like I said make the best out of it ;-) Theme: HostelAddress: East Gate of the Taj Mahal
