Re: agra

Yes private car (a taxi) would be safe and is opted by many. Just make sure the its a official taxi with yellow number plate.

It should take a maximum of 6 hours from Airport to reach Agre

Hi. Yes it is safe. but you have to make sure you are taking a car by a travel agency.

I did Delhi to Agra to Jaipur and it was only for USD 250. It was fantastic as I had a very informative and kind driver.

His name is Raju Kumar. He works for a travel agency in Delhi. You can contact him through +09871316721 or email him at kumar69raju@yahoo.co.in

Its worth it. The taxing train travel from Delhi to AGra to Jaipur was too much for us to take and spending just a little bit more made our trip a lot more fun and exciting....

hope this helps

Hiring a taxi from airport may not be safe, if it is not from an authorised travel agent. You may contact and ask a reputed travel agent or taxi operator to pick you up from airport and take you to Agra (Please search Web). Reputed taxi operators may provide a small air-conditioed car for a jorney from Delhi to agra & back for a cost of INR 6000/- to 7000/- (1US$= INR 40/- approx). Yellow & black taxis are cheap, but the are not air-conditioned and not permitted to go beyond borders of Delhi.

I would catch a train, the fasted (Shatabdi) takes only 2 hours, rather than sitting for hours in a car. Also to pay 250 USD for the previlige (as the poster above says) is a rediculous price. Now you can fly for less...

Travel by air may take more time as you have to reach airport atleast one hour before departure. Flights are some times delayed also. Regarding the cost of ticket, you may check up from the internet. To get a good taxi for local conveyance is not easy.A taxi from Delhi can take you to some tourist attractions enroute.

Travel Tips for Agra

Arrive in Taj Early

by XKuger

It is the TAJ MAHAL that is special about Agra. The city is a dump, dusty, crowded and lousy roads. There are toots all over and they aggrassively try to sell you stuff.

Most definity arrive at the Taj Mahal at 06:00 AM if you want to see it before the bus load of crows show up from tour buses and trains from Delhi. Usually the best time is from 6:00 to 09:00 AM or After 5:00 P.M The fantastic change of colors at sunrise.

TAJ MAHAL-ELEMENTS OF BEAUTY (2)

Carved Relief Panels

These panels, which depict flowers, birds, vines and foliage, were carved into the pristine white marble facade of the Taj Mahal , and highlight the colours of the Petra Dura floral motifs.
The domination of floral patterns and motifs is said to symbolize the theme of Paradise in Mughal art forms.

Calligraphy

Black marble calligraphy was used as another method of ornamentation. There are detailed inscriptions with Koranic verses. The recessed archways at the Taj Mahal show beautiful examples of this calligraphy, and the Pietra Dura surrounding it.
The size of the calligraphy increases as the arches reach higher- thereby giving an optical illusion of uniformity.

Birds at Taj Mahal

by victorwkf

When I was at Taj Mahal in January 2008, I saw a lot of birds especially at the water landscape area in-front of the tomb. The birds seem to be egrets as they are white in colour, and rather tall and big (see photos).

Mowing the Lawn

by DanielF

I guess many things have changed in India since my visit, after so many years of galloping economic growth. However, in 2003, they still used this archaic yet charming method to mow the lawns in the perfectly manicured gardens of the Taj Mahal.
