Hotel Amar, Agra

We stayed at Hotel Amar in Agra for three nights and one thing that pleased me the most was the excellent value for money that the hotel offers. The staff of the hotel was very helpful and understanding they went out of their way to help us. It was due to the help of the hotel staff that we were able to watch the spectacular sight of simply gorgeous Taj Mahal at just the right time of sunrise when it looks its best. The hotel is well furnished and my room was a very comfortable and well kept one.

The hotel also provides swimming pool, Jacuzzi and a Health Club all at such affordable budget which makes it one of the finest budget hotels in the city. Although rooms are always clean and has good bathrooms its windows lets much of the outside noise in and thus is annoying at times. The staff is graciously friendly and helpful they also assisted us to enjoy a rickshaw ride sponsored by the hotel itself. The hotel is centrally situated in the city and thus is good base for exploring the city and its magnificent historic monuments.

Good value for your money

One of the upper-midrange options in the tourist complex. For USD 45.- per night it was a bargain for one day. And why should you stay in Agra for more than one day? Rooms have A/C, TV, minibar, cleanliness is O.K., room service is fine and they have a swimming pool where you can splash around after spending 4 hours in the striking heat visiting the Taj Mahal.
Unfortunately, nonguests also have access to the pool, which means that sometimes a lot of male Indians will be diving and staring western (and blonde) girls. This can be annoying at times.
They also have a relatively well-equipped bar where you can have a Kingfisher for the usual hotel price: Rs. 100.- but if you would like to have a sip of whisky or a cocktail, you have to dig deep into your pocket.

DIRTY FILTHY HOTEL!

This was the filthiest hotel I have ever had the misfortune to stay in! The carpets were horribly stained, the bathroom sunk which means the entire bedroom stunk too! Not to mention the bath tubs were terribly discoloured and dirty. There was dirt and grime everywhere you looked! The food was aweful. When we arrived we were left waiting also for ages even thou we arrived late in the evening and they knew about our arrival ages before. Also the lift is extremely tiny - not alot of ppl can fit in it, and if like us, you had a big suitcase and stayed on the 2nd floor, you were kept waiting for ages while the lift kept opening full with ppl and we could not squeeze in. DO NOT go by pics of the hotel you see on the net - it looks good but pics are very deceiving!

Well located Mid-Priced Hotel in Agra

by Paul2001 about The Hotel Amar

I was very fortunate when I stayed in this hotel. As it turned I got quite sick while in Agra and I spent alot of time in the room. Thankfully they had satillite TV. Not that you have come all the way to India to watch television but when you holed up in a room for a day you need the company. As for the hotel itself, the Amar is rather smart. The rooms were very large, clean and quite modern. The hotel had a large breakfast room and a bar which I used when I emerged from my room for air. The service here was really helpful as I arranged couple of taxi tours from here. My one problem with the Hotel Amar is that it lacked something when it comes to character. As you can see from this photograph, it is very much a cement blocklike structure The hotel had a pool which for me was a rarity in India. The walk here to the Taj takes about 10 minutes. There are a few good restaurants nearby including the Pizza Hut if you had enough of Indian food like I did at this point in my journey.

Hi

Would you have any email addresses for the accommodation that you recommended? They sound okay but I have been advised that it is a good idea to pre-book in Agra to avoid all the hasslers.

Thanks

Colin

USD 35 is a very good price for Agra. You can get into Hotel Amar/ Holiday Inn for around Rs. 500 or USD 10.

They are 3 star hotel and good facilities.
