Taj Mahal opening times
by illumina
Despite what the guidebooks may say, since the gates to the Taj Mahal open from dawn to dusk, the times are not fixed. Our LP book said that the south gate would be open at 6am, but in Feb 2009, the east and west gates opened at 7am (with ticket office open at 6:30) and the south gate opened at 8am. It's always best to check locally rather than trusting the guidebooks implicitly (it would have saved us a 5:30am alarm!).
That said, if you want to be there for dawn, bear in mind that tour groups start queuing early. Very early.
What I saw
by l_joo
I tell what I saw is the way of VT. I saw this city of Agra quite strange in the city's tourism itself that it was all about the Islamic construction of Taj Mahal, that's all. For me as a tourist visiting Agra first time, I thought Taj Mahal was built by a Hindu King for his wife and I was expecting some kind of Hindu architecture here. The moment I saw Taj, I realized it was Islamic and the construction was the main symbol to represent India, a country of Hindu 5000 years culture......more tips coming soon
Elegance
by diageva
Go dress properly to Taj Mahal; everybody wants to have nice pics there. I had the great luck to go at July, then I find only Indian tourist, so I had my pics full of the fantastic colours of women’s saris and with their elegance and beauty. Thanks to all that Indian tourist that were those days there and made my pics full of beautiful colours.
The morning we went to Taj Mahal it has been raining very hard so we had to put ours things inside a plastic bag. I am sure we spoiled many pics with those ugly plastic bags.
Horsecart of Agra
by l_joo
Horsecart of Agra is what you can see on the street everywhere. You even have buffallos in a bunch strolling here and there and then you have monkeys, pigs, dogs, cows, etc but sruprisingly cats are rare, otherwise we can tied 50 cats together to form a catcart, good idea isn't it?
Children with painted eyes in black
by diageva
You will see that some little children have their eyes painted in black. This is a tradition that comes, as I learn by my great-grandfather’s book, of the need of prevent flies coming over their eyes and bring infections. Now is only a tradition, as the father of this child told me.
He also told me that the jewel he wears is also a tradition way to prevent bad luck and protect the child. Is normal that all this things are done when so many children die due illness at India.
