The sharp, new Jaypee Palace Hotel is a bit different in many subtle ways, maybe due to the fact that it was designed with business or diplomatic concerns in mind. The crisp, red sandstone Jaypee is the venue for conventions, meetings and even nuclear arms talks between leaders. The result is a big, flat business-like structure with the ambience of a flashy office building rather than a holiday spot. It is still obviously a hotel, the layout and excellent pools remind you of that, but it lacks warmth and personality due to the harshness of the angular marble and stone. Full length windows and flowers bring some life, but in a corporate way. Decent but dark rooms have lots of varnished wood, are reasonably well equipped, and some have little balconies with calm views of the well trimmed gardens. Securely located a few km out of the main tourist areas, this is a bonus in terms of stress. Staff are attentive, polite and professional, and the facilities are relatively broad and good. Certainly a good choice for those looking for a little sanity in a hectic and crazy town, but its main appeal must be for the corporate guest.
