The Oberoi Amarvilas is just the right place for all the lovers of the spectacular monument of Taj Mahal. From my room I had a private view of the Taj as this hotel is just a few meters away from it. Built in a style inspired by Moorish and Mughal architecture this hotel along with other features of the foregone era with terraced lawns, fountains and pavilions impressed me at the very first sight. Mine was Kohinoor Suite which was surely heavenly beauteous and had separate living and dining rooms.
This suite also has a private study and a bedroom which has a separate dressing area. Even my bathroom overlooks the stunningly beautiful monument of Taj Mahal. Just like all the other rooms in the hotel I was also provided butler service which gave me a complete princess like feeling in the regal city of Agra. I had all my meals at Esphahan which is a specialty Indian restaurant and I enjoy Indian cuisines the most.

Stunning Location in Agra
The best view possible of the Taj Mahal from every room. You can see the Taj change colour as the sun rises and sets. This hotel is about location, location, location! The rooms are superb , the staff excellent, the pool is stunning ... it is a magnificent hotel.

Best hotel I stayed at in India, hands down. On par with any Banyan Tree hotel. Best view over the Taj. Unbelievable service, much better than what I am used to in China where I live.

Taj View Luxury Hotel
One of my great regrets about my recent trip to India was that we had only one night at this amazing hotel.
The Amarvilas is a luxurious, palatial hotel, with views of the Taj Mahal from every room.
While the grounds are not vast here, they are beautifully laid out. The rooms are lavishly appointed and you would come to Agra just to lounge in their sumptuous comfort. The colours of the decor were most unusual with a very vivid turquoise tamed by white. It set the tone it's meant to - rich, cool, and expensive.
The bathrooms are large with both a bath and a seperate spacious shower. One thing I love about the newer or newly renovated hotels these days is the amount of space given to showers. There is nothing worse than being cramped behind a plastic curtain hung over a bath as water trickles from a minute shower-head!! Amarvilas is a statement in bathrooms:-)
Outside, tiered terraces overlook the pool, and cooling waterfalls flow from tier to tier. As you lounge in the sun, jasmine tea is served by beautifully sari'd waitresses. There are covered poolside terraces, also, providing shade for a cool drink or delicious snack between swims or sunbathing.
There are two restaurants and we dined that evening in the international restaurant. The food was incredible - quite easily the best meal I ate in the course of my sixteen night trip. The staff are friendly, chatty, and helpful. I wore a special dress to dinner that evening and they complimented me - it made me feel great.
Unique Quality: The view of the Taj Mahal from every room of this amazing hotel cannot be beaten. No other Agra hotel shares this view.

We stayed a night in Nov'05 (you have to pay in advance for a 1 night non-refundable deposit! - which other hotel has such a stringent and unfair condition?) and was not impressed at all. Though we were met at the driveway by a staff - we had to find our way to the main reception (no doorman around to open the hotel door)and asked around to be checked in. The check-in service was good. Having paid in advance for a deluxe room we were allocated a ground floor room with an obstructed view of the Taj Mahal. After some complaints we were allocated an acceptable higher floor room. Breakfast was not included and the buffet breakfast was not impressive. Though entertainment was provided this was not communicated to guests. The staff were obviously not trained for customer service. Gym facilities not 5 star hotel standards. Though it boasts of being 600m from the Taj Mahal - it is not a walkable distance and view not worth the price.

Amar villas is the most extraudinary hotel. We stopped by for lunch and ate on the balcony overlooking the gardens, pool and the Taj Mahal. The service was suberb, the staff are discreet and attentive. Highly recommend staying or at least dropping into this hotel for a meal.

Everything was perfect about this hotel. I say this as a tour leader for a group of 12. Although it is more grand than I would opt for on my own when travelling, it was a dream come true for work purposes. Rooms are huge and lush with views of the Taj Mahal and walk-in closets. The food is excellent and varied in their restaurants. The pool was deserted and heated. The staff were amazingly friendly and efficient, and not overbearing. I was amazed to discover that their business center rates were very reasonable, as were their non-alcoholic drinks. They have a good DVD lending library, golf carts to the Taj if people aren't up to walking the rather short distance, and the bathroom ammenities were lovely and abudant.

The hotel is pure luxury and in my opinion the only place to stay in Agra. Each room has a view of the Taj. The staff are very helpful and well trained. The Indian restaurant is top quality.

I only wish we had been able to stay longer than one night. The only hotel nicer is the Udaivillas in Udaipur.
Although our stay was perfect - ambience, taj, service, food - if we had had more energy upon checking in, we should have asked for a room with a better view. We were along the main floor at the end of the hall. Of course we could see the Taj Mahal, but a room higher up or closer to the lobby would have afforded a more spectacular view. And after all, that's the point.

Yes – Don’t miss the Baby Taj – You have to cross the river to see it but worth while – you can also get some more unusual pics of The Taj Mahal form the back side !!
Food – Yash Café, Close to the Taj
Details of all this and more on my India page – Argra Things to do and restraints, also a hotel if you decide to stay over
Hoe that helps
Happy travels

The 'Baby Taj,' actually Itimad's Tomb.
Akbar's Tomb (which you can visit en route to Fatehpur Sikri).
The Amarvilas Hotel, at least for a drink and look-see.

Chini ka Rauza, which is situated 1 Kilometer north of Itimad ud Daulah's Tomb. This is less popular sightseeing but the beauty of colorful tiles is worth appericiation.Beside you can visit Dayal Bagh and can see beautiful Radhasoami memorial. The memorial building is continuously under construction since last 100 years.Infect you can see the workers and artisans doing fine pietra dura inlay work on the inner walls of marble structure.
Best wishes
