Golden Buddha: Golden Buddha Hotel cheats

I stayed in the dorm for 10 days....It was cheap and extremly basic....One had to wait hours after asking for a bed cover....and they were not clean.....no hot water....and the food in the restaurant took at least an hour for a simple maggi soup they made....

But this is nothing comparing with the excesive cheating of the managers....I asked them to get me a flight from Varanassi to Delhi as I was in a hurry....They asked me for 3875 rupees while in the internet the same flight was 2270!!...They smiled at me and wanted to make friends and visit me in my home in Europe and they did not have any problem in charging 1600 rupees comission....

I was with a friend, checking out.....I tried to cancel the taxi to the airport as they were overcharging 500 ruppees....They got angry and lock us both in...calling three men to lock the gates and shout at as ....my friend had nothing to do with the issues so she was kidnapped inside the hotel with me.... They finall let her out but they did not allow her to take her bags and computer...she called the police who came to free us and got the managers to return the money they overcharged from my ticket ......a whole ordeal......

The police acted very well, giving us protection and pressing the hotel managers to admit they cheated on my ticket and giving me the money back....

There are no many hotels in Sarnath....Do not let people cheat you.....The police gives an excellent service!!!!

A wonderful fire in the garden for those chilly nights...

The staff are sweet, kind locals...

XYZ: Stay in Varanasi

My advice would be staying in Varanasi if you are visiting Sarnath unless you are a religious travellor and really want to get into the essence of sarnath. Its barely 30 minutes by car or autorickshaw from Varanasi and most of the tourists also chose this option.

The Golden Buddha Hotel: A quite place to stay

We found Sarnath a retreat from the crowded Varanasi city. In Sarnath, there were almost no touts or kids trying to sell us stuff we didn't want. The parks are a bit scruffy, but feeding the deers and walking around the monastic ruins were very soothing. We stayed at the Golden Buddha hotel, just walking distance from the main temples.

The hotel is in a quite neighborhood and the owners personally see that very thing is ok and give friendly advice on traveling around India and locally. They also have a good Indian restaurant and an outdoor hot tub.

There are several places to stay in Sarnath which is quieter and calmer than Varanasi. Some monasteries provide also. A few choices are :

Hmm well, I don't know. I...

Hmm well, I don't know. I travelled from Varanasi to this place. I didn't take me long, only 45 minutes. This village is nice to see for a day, but not really a place to stay. But if you must: try a guesthouse or a monastery if you are religious.
