the best view and nicest waiters
I made a mess of my arrival thanks to an incomplete knowledge of the 24 hour clock. Nevertheless they accommodated me despite queues of people.
That was my first visit.
I love sitting on their balcony, eating, drinking, writing, talking to travellers.
I asked an elderly waiter how deep the Ganges was in the middle and was told, 'about ten and a half elephants, sir'. Says it all...
Unique Quality: Views, views, views with an excellent, large cafe attached, very odd ( though delicious) muesli for breakfast.

Hotel along the Ganges
The Alka Hotel is a gem, located along one of the many back streets in the old town of Varanasi and set along the Ganges river.
The hotel is set around an attractive courtyard, which doubles as the hotels restaurant.
The restaurant is vegetarian and serves a diverse menu which is very reasonably priced.
Our room was small and basic, set off of the courtyard with a small bathroom, fan and twin beds.
Unique Quality:
The location is superb here, you can enjoy the views along the Ganges from the safety of the courtyard, walk to the Ghats within minutes and to the bustling streets of the old town within seconds.

On the holy river
The stay in hotel has been very beautiful but the outside was a jungle.When you enter in old Varanasi ( in the pedestrian zone, near the Gange )and wear sandals or slippers is better that you move out it because on the floor of the narrow lanes you will find more cow or dog or monkey or uman gifts.REMEMBER jump the cow.
