AUM Sweet AUM

Recommended by the Korean lady met in Agra, I came to this hotel. When I made the reservation from Agra, I had the following conservation:

China Doll: Can I make the reservation as the Korean Lady introduced me here?
Phone Answered in Korean, And I said I am not Korean. Then she spoke in Japanese, I said I am not Japanese.
She asked me: are you Chinese?
CD: Yes. Are you Chinese as well(I would be very surprised if she was)?
She said she learnt some Chinese in China before.

After I arrived here, I finally met this young Korean lady whom studied Chinese in China for three years.

Two Indian brothers were super as they are friendly and very helpful.

Through the conservation with them, I got to know that the marriage is still choosen by their family nowadays(they certainly belongs to middle class in Indian society). I asked whether this kind of marriage is happy for their children. One of them said most are yes because the parents can chose based on their experience. You need to understand that experience is very important in some Asian countries. Because even the rules in the western country are set by the experienced people. If you are humble enough, there are always enough experience can be learnt from the elders.

This is one of the best hotel in Varanasi I recommend. The rooms are with perfect Ganges view.

Temple?

by sambavi

Hi ALL,

Does anyone know Kasi(Lord Siva) temple in Varanasi? Or at some other city?
I am not sure...

Re: Temple?

by ElCordobez

It is called Kashi Vishwanath Temple, deity Shiva and is indeed in Varanasi...

Re: Temple?

Yes. Kasi Vishwanath Temple. So, it is in Varanasi. Is that the temple has Ganga? How far is that temple from Chennai?
Is it best to commute from Chennai or Madurai or some other city?

Re: Temple?

Is Varanasi in Tamil Nadu State or out of state???

Re: Temple?

by vdadu

Varanasi...initially known as Banaras...is in Uttar Pradesh state of India. Tamil Nadu is in the vey South of India whereas Varanasi is in the Northern Part of India...The rough distance between to place will be >2100km.

Kashi Viswanath Temple is very near to the banks of River Ganga and is considered to be one of the oldest and sacred place for Hindus.

U may catch Kashi Vishwanath Express (Train) from New Delhi which starts at 1330hrs and reaches Varanasi at around 0600hrs next day.

I hope this information will be useful.

Keep Smiling

Door

Picture is a house door taken by me. This door is nothing so special but it is from Varanasi and that makes it special. Not many peoples would upload a door to show you but I. Looking at a door is part of my travel experience, why not build as a tip.

Respect the COWS

by Rupanworld

Cows are regarded as HOLY in Hindu religion. Varanasi, being the seat of traditional Hindu beliefs and values, pays great respect to Cows. So, if you are in Varanasi, try not to get irritated at the sight of cows all around.

Pan Massala - The Red Spit.

by Hmmmm

ou ever notice the ubiquitous red blobs all over the walls and the ground of India. Its Pan Massala, or beetle -nut. Somepeople use Areca nut, a cheaper nastier version. Pan Massala is the beetle nut narcotic concoction that causes all of the red spit throughout India.

Indian Guys (and I saw many elderly women use it too) love it. They typically they take the fresh beetle nut, wrap it in a leaf, add shredded coconut and dab on several different herbs and pastes. The concoction is sold throughout India especially outside of restaurants as an after dinner treat!

Also an istant pan massala is widely available. They are the tiny little sachets that are sold in stalls and shops all over india, like the one in the picture. with this instant version one just has to just open the sachet and within minutes one is ready to drool the red beetle nut juice and later spit it on the wall.It seems like a great concept except that it was immediately suspected of causing cancer of the lip.

Guys often sit around, watching the worm go by almost out of it on this Pan Massala. There isn't really anything good at all about Pan Masala and Areca nut save the fact taht it is said to be a good taenifuge for tapeworm. So there you go.

Send me photo please !

Another local Varanasian custom is when after taking their photos for them, they most probably want you to send photos for them. Here are two local Varanasian youngsters who want me to send them photo. They as usual, wrote their address in paper and then smiles happily to wait for photos post to them.
