Away from the Ghats
This was one of my favourite budget hotels on my trip. It's almost like a small resort with a swimming pool, restaurant, bar, shop, hairdresser, massage, sauna, steam bath amd internet cafe. I arrived and was first shown a room in another block on the ground floor that was OK. But then I was told that I could have a room in the main block which was much better. It was very clean and had a balcony that overlooked the central garden courtyard. It also had 2 single beds with very clean sheets and towels folded nicely on top, 2 small chairs, table, large mirror, wardrobe, TV, phone, ceiling fan, A/C, 24hr hot water shower in a very clean bathroom (see photo). All this for just Rs400! The staff were very friendly even though they tended to try and sell tours all the time. I actually went on the Ganges at Sunrise tour which at only Rs150 was a good price considering how far the hotel is from the Ghats. And that's really the only down-side to it, the distance it is from the city centre and the ghats. If you want some peace and quiet then this place is great.

Great deal!
If you need pleasant surroundings and the train station area is making you feel kinda claustrophobic then the Cantontment area is THE place. And Hotel Surya is the best option for accommodation in this area. I paid only 330/- for a room since I was alone and I was surprised to see mosquito nets on the window, a nice balcony overlooking the restaurant garden and very nice and clean rooms.
The service was excellent, the staff very friendly, the food quite decent and the garden rules! There is also a business center with internet access and a beauty parlor offering everything from steam bath (bad idea!) to pedicure and head massage.
Unique Quality: Quiet area, friendly staff, great garden restaurant.

A prefect place for Budget People
A/C rooms with attached bath, running hot and cold water. Rooms with independent balcony overlooking the garden view.
