Weather in July - too cloudy to see a solar eclipse?
by nurgle
Hi there,
I'm thinking about travelling to Darjiling to view the total solar eclipse on the 22nd July, but have realised that this is at the start of the monsoon season. What's the general pattern of weather at this time of year? The eclipse is due to be happening early in the morning, I believe - from around 5.30am to 7.30am.
Thanks in advance!

The only place in India, where there will be no clouds in July will be Leh in Ladakh region. Darjeeling will be full of clouds. It is peak monsoon season in Darjeeling in mid July

Hello there,
If you are crazy about seeing solar eclipse (which is falling on 22nd July in 2009), please read on...
It may seem a little off-beat (for an info about Solar Eclipse), but i wanted to share this with you.
If you are planning to visit India especially for the eclipse, why not try going to Kurukshetra. The Brahma Sarovar (the Holy Lake) there sees more than 5 lakh people bathing on that auspicious day and moment. There is religious reasons attached to that place during Eclipse(s).
Even if you are not a religious or a spiritual person, the view from there is awesome and seeing more than 5 lakh devotees is a great sight itself.
Thanks and Regards...

symbol of marriage

Nepali lady, mostly poor people from nepal migrate to Darjeeling to earn their living ,mostly they work as poters. They are usually dressed traditionally which we people have lost touch to western wear. You can make out a married lady if she sports a green or red beads, she has both the colours on her neck as well you'll find most ladies with red tika on her forhead and a red vermillian mark on her hair parting, this is a hindu culture which states the symbol of marriage.
you will love this..concentrate on the roads...

Rock Garden and Ganga Maya Park:
Rock garden as the name suggests, is a garden fully made out of rock. It is a marvel of present day architecture. Situated at a distance of about 12 kilometers, (approx.) away from Darjeeling town and winding its way through the narrow and enthralling hilly terrain, it is a place worth a visit. Ganga Maya park situated 2 kilometers away from rock garden has a small lake at its helm, with boating facilities where one can enjoy the serene cool atmosphere of the place.
The most awsome fun is getting there...........the road is steep and you get the feel of it while you drive down hill............
step aside,darjeeling town.

About three minutes walk from Chowrasta, Darjeeling, commonly known as the Mall, the main tourist attraction of Darjeeling, will bring the visitors to STEP ASIDE, the house where the famous Indian patriot Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das passed away on 16th June, 1925.
Great place with great people

I have been there for week or so. It has been a very great experience there. I loved the ambiance, the climate. People like me, who are tired of living in a city with all the hustle and bustle can take a refuge in a place like Darjeeling; won't regret it.
By the way, it can rain there anytime. So be prepared.
There are some very good restaurents on the Mall. Specially, Glenary's Cafe is a place I would recommend. It is nice place to sit and enjoy the scenes while having great food and tea. As a plus, you can also check your emails and stuffs as they have a cyber-corner also.
