Loved this Artsy Guesthouse!

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on September 8, 2013

We loved our stay at the Bodhi Tree! Since there were four of us, we opted for the 2 bedroom Bodhi Master Suite. We had 2 bedrooms (one with a canopied double bed and one with two twin beds) - each with a full attached bathroom, a living room, a full kitchen, and a kitchen/dining table. The living room had a Bonsai Zen Garden. Extras were free WiFi, A/C and a flat screen TV. It was a very comfortable stay. We had a fresh Indian breakfast served in our suite or in the lovely patio garden.

The guesthouse is personal with only 5 rooms. Artwork - painting, sculptures, etc. - decorate the the entire space and it makes for a very cozy place.

Located in the quiet Swiss Park residential area this guesthouse is about 5 minutes to the metro station. It is very near to Kalighat Temple, Mother’s House, and South City Mall. I'd definitely recommend staying here.

ART GALLERY CUM GUEST HOUSE!

Good (3.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on January 13, 2009

This quaint little guest-house, tucked away in a side street in South Kolkata, has so much potential. The rooms are tastefully decorated and clean. It is residence that has been converted into what is a confusing mixture of accomodation and an art-gallery. The whole of the ground floor has walls lined with Indian art (for sale), and even on the 3 upper floors and outside sitting area, there are paintings and sculptures. This is eye-catching, and aesthetically attractive.
Unfortunately, the owner of Bodhi Tree, Devdan, keeps himself hidden on the top-floor, and we could only speak with him "by appointment". He leaves the day to day running of the place to an "office manager", who, although a pleasant young fellow who tries his best, has minimal English. Communication was very difficult. The rest of the staff were as helpful as they could be. under the circumstances. I really feel that Bodhi Tree needs a more "hands-on" approach. by the owner.
The bathrooms have a hot water system that is so complicated that one needs to be a genius to work it out- we could never get more that a few minutes of hot water from the shower at any given time (even after MANY complaints & queries, and demos from the staff) It was just NOT working for us-in any room! It became a bit of a joke after a while.
Breakfasts are served- out of sequence- (everything came at once) but I did mention this to Devdan, the owner- and it was corrected. The food was basic but adequate.
The little outdoor sitting area downstairs is blissfully peaceful- we ate out breakfast there, and it was a good place to sit and read.
The staff were helpful in ordering taxis for us, although we also used the nearby underground Metro system to get to Esplanade & Park Street areas.
All in all, I would say that this is not bad choice for accomodation in Kolkata- if one could be VERY patient, and overlook the frustrations of lack of hot-water & accessability to the owner, who could really improve the problems that occured, almost daily. It is not managed on a professional basis.
I also think that the website for Bodhi Tree is slightly misleading regarding size and amount of rooms available. I would stay here again.

Unique Quality: Art- art- art everywhere.

Proximity to the Metro

Internet Facilities are available (NOT free)

Televisions are in each room.

Rooms all have different themes- (avoid Yoga Cara- it is for Dwarfs only)

Went to visit my friends from UK who were staying in Bodhi Tree for 4 nights.
It is such a great place that I wanted to list Bodhi Tree.
Fantastic decor - New Age Theme , with all the hotel facilties ( Free WiFi ..thats new ! ).
All the rooms have different names and different kind of decor .
My friends were very happy with their stay .
Hence , I assume , the service was also good .

Unique Quality: Boutique Decor . Very calm and peaceful ( not a party place ! ).

Directions: Close to Rabindra Sarovar Metro Station - Swiss Park .
