FLOATING HOTEL IN KOLKATA
The city of Calcutta was built by the British as 19th/20th Century London. Like they have Thames we have The Ganges. This Flotel was started in the 80's but since it is govt. run( Run by West Bengal Tourism), it is not a frequent destination of many travellers. Though locationally it is located in the best area, just off Calcutta Swimming club and right heart of the business district. The hotel was originally conceptualised by Mr. Manab Pal an entrepreneur and architect. This hotel remained closed for many years for lack of patronage. Now it seems they are back again as private property and open to customers. What I understand it still lacks marketing and runs thru' corporate bookings only.The clientale is limited and flotel runs on loss. There was a Gala New years party on the night of 31st. Rooms are okay but service is poor. May be it will soon be taken over just like Great Eastern Hotel , by private entreprenure and turned in to a bustling place soon.
Recently their Sales & Marketing Manager Mr. Kunal Banerjee visited our office for business and I had the knowledge that they will havethe New Year's Party there. So I took this opportunity to take our VT friends from Kathmandu Mr. Dibya rana and Urvashi as our guest of honor to Flotel for New Year's Celebration. ( see pictures of New Years' Eve on HP Travelogue)
We did not stay here but just visited from outside. This is the only Flotel in India!!
