ac bus timings to airport

by pujarini_007

can u please tell me if there is an ac bus from tollygunj to dumdm airport at around 6am?

Re: ac bus timings to airport

by lynnehamman

I doubt if there is a bus at that time of the morning.
The underground Metro DOES run between Tollygunj & DumDum, but it only operates between 7.15am and 9.30pm.
Your best and sfest bet is to take a taxi (metered).
Thje traffic will be managable early in the am., and it should not cost too muvh. Get a quote from your hotel desk.

Thanks Lynne, there are now several Volvo AC buses from Tollygunj to Airport but they operate only from 8.30AM fare is Rs.60/- and leaves every half an hour . If you have to catch early morning flight the take a taxi, it should cost you around Rs280-300 from Tollygunj Metro station ( next to my place). The prepaid fare from Airport to Tollygunj is Rs280/- but is likely to go up to Rs300/- after the recent fuel price hike.

Hope this information is useful.

Travel Tips for Kolkata (Calcutta)

That famous book

by sourbugger

Calcutta has always had something of an image problem. The 'black hole of Calcutta' incident did nothing to help this image, and whilst Mother Teresa's mission has made great efforts, the city remains byword for poverty and destitution.

This must make it harder to attract new industries to the city, who may more naturally gravitate towards more 'modern' cities such as Bangalore.

The book 'City of Joy' following the avaentures of an American Doctor, who leaves his job to 'find himself' gets drawn into helping the rickshaw pullers of Calcutta. It is certainly an inspiring book - and hence the ironic title.

It was also made into a film starring Patrick Swayze. Whilst not a 'monster' hit, it is still worth seeking out and watching before a visit - even if you can't stand the acting talents of Mr Swayze.

The Nicco Park

by Kumarjit

The Nicco Park is the best amusement park in India and is preferred hotspot for tourists, citizens and families with children. It has numerous amazing rides, eateries and a lake where you can do boating. The rides here are very amazing and are sure to give you a wonderful expreience. Try the Cable car(rope way), The Water Coaster, The Water Chute, The Cave Ride and The Simuthriller. For me, the most wonderful experience was the Cave Ride. It is really spooky and thrilling when you enter a huge cave in an automatic boat sailing on a shallow stream of water. I will not tell you everything. You go and enjoy it !
One of the best rides is The Cyclone. True to its name, it is extremely fast and gives you a terrible and marvellous experience at the same time!
You can also visit the spooky ghost house and the Pyramid.
Nicco Park is truly a great experience for all the people who have visited it. You should wear light clothes and should not carry any heavy article or luggage.

Rickshaws

by georeiser

Rickshaws are human-powered transport the where runner draws a two-wheeled cart which seats two persons. Some cities have forbidden rickshaws due to many traffic accidents. But it is still legal in Kolkata. Kolkata has the longest tradition in india with rickshaws. Other places have replaced it by bicycle rickshaws.

well,... if you look for the cheapest way to be there, maybe you could hike I supposed but I get a cheapest flight ticket from Bangkok.
Train is another alternative for me to get into another distric. The rest, I would prefer walking.

Try their Sizzling Pork!!

by goutammitra about China Haus of China Town- Kolkata!!

Last Sunday we tried our luck at yet another Chinese Restaurant of China town, China Haus! There are about 50 or 60 odd restaurants in China Town all converted from Tannery to Restaurant. The food and the decor is very good but they have jacked up the prices due to Bird Flu in Bengal! They are not serving Chicken anymore but have replaced their menu with Meat and Fish, which is naturally more expensive. Nobody minds as long as it is safe and good for health.

Addendum: April'08- Burd Flu is now over in Bengal and Chicken is back in the menu in all restaurants! We tried their Roasted Sizzling Pork, Sizzling Prawn, Cantonese Rice and Rice Noodles. All were excellent in terms of taste but I still rate the food of Shun Li is better.
