Calcutta's Splurge Hotels.
This hotel is now upgraded themselves from 5Star to % Star Luxury hotel category. I visited them yesterday.
Unique Quality: ITC Sonar Bangla, is the flagship hotel of ITC group, the cigarette giant of India. Earlier it used to be known as British American tobacco co. This hotel business is one of their diversified business. In India they have several fine hotels and they are known for their professional service and value for money.
Their hotel in Hyderabad, South India , ITC Kakatiya Sheraton has the honour to host two American Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush, recently. Bill Gates also prefers this hotel whenever he visits Hyderabad. Bill gates also stayed in ITC Sonar Bangla, when he visited Kolkata, earlier this year.

We had to run to Kolkata all the way from Bangalore to attend interviews at the American Consulate!! On our drive to the city .. we came across the sprawling layout of the Sonar Bangla!! Initially we we just wanted a bite to eat and dined at the Dumpukht - delicious, sumptuous and any other applicable words! So we decided to stay on! They have five other culinary options to stimulate anyone's senses!! The room was eclectically done with some light pieces and neutral colors making you feel right at home! The bathroom has a his and hers option and uses some really nice amenities. The room has wireless (paid) access and our room had a beautiful view of the lush green they are situated amidst!! 24 room service is the icing on the cake - if all you want to do it rest!! its one of the best value for my money luxury places we've stayed in!!

I Have been to this magnificent place. It's really quality at its best!! But the only problem is the price. It is very very expensive. You just need to stay there if you are in Kolkata. It is nearby to airport and has various shopping malls and cinema theatre like "CITY CENTRE". It is located in Salt Lake City and also has various restaurant inside and nearby. Great ambience and service. I would rate it 10/10. A perfect place if you don't mind the budget!! Happy Journey!!

was there with a friend for the architect of the year awards and totally enjoyed out stay. the ambience is great and the service excellent, specially @ the pan asia restaurant ! and must say the dim sum/martini buffet was sumptous !!!
top drawer service and an oasis

This is a top drawer hotel in all respects. Probably as legitimate a4 or 5 star hotel as you would find in India. If you are here for business at Salt Lake the location is terrific.
There are a variety of restaurants and cuisines (even and Irish pub!) and I believe I tried nearly all of them with equally satisfying results - excellent service and excellent food. A pretty fair wine list is available as well. The breakfast buffet (included with room) is, without a doubt, the best I’ve ever seen anywhere in the world. Tremendous variety and delicious. You can’t get through everything offered.
The staff is very attentive and helpful and they really make you feel that you are welcome.
The rooms are large and comfortable and the shower was awesome. Good toiletry products, too. The only negative was the lack of extra basic services such as ATM, gift shop or newsstand. But, on balance, a pretty fine hotel.
p.s., during my stay the mosquitoes were quite bad although they fogged the entryway at dusk each evening and have guys running around with electric bug zappers all evening. I suspect the mosquitoes are a problem at certain times of the year because the property has a huge (over 1 acre) lily covered Koi pond which is perfect for mosquito breeding. Having said that, I don’t believe I was bit even once.

We stayed at this hotel in 2006 after our wedding. Excellent hotel, lovely rooms, elegant service and the spa was fabulous as well. One can best describe the property as an oasis in Kolkatta. The hotel laso has some great places to eat in, including a wonderfual south east asian resturant, Pan Asia. Only drawback is the distance from South Calcutta, but otherwise an excellent place.
Business with pleasure

I was on the way to Silchar, Assam along with my Boss on an official trip as we had to catch the morning flight from Kolkata to Silchar therefore we had to pit stop at Kolkata. Our visit to ITC was not planned at all as our caretaker didn't turn up at the airport and eventually our taxi driver took to this hotel. As usual the hotel is majestic with a beautiful location and superb exterior. The reception is huge and the rooms are great. And how can I close without mentioning the world famous delicaies of Bukhara restaurant inside. If you have money than this is the right place in Kolkata. Enjoy ..............
good hotel but in the middle of nowhere....

i stayed at the itc sonar for one night in december '06 for a business trip & while the hotel was great, the location is in the middle of nowhere....the taxi drive from the airport took forever....having spg platinum status helped as they upgraded me to an itc one room, which is basically sort of a mini suite....its one large room, very nicely done up....i never had a chance to eat in any of the restaurants but the room service was excellent, although a bit pricy....all in all, the hotel is extremely nice but seems cut off fom the city itself....

ITC Sonar Bangla is perhaps the best example of keeping pace with the contemporary and modern business traveller. The property itself is very contemporary in architecture and has got ultra modern look to it! The water body maintained around the property gives a very different feel to the Hotel. The hotel does its best to keep the smell outside though! The rooms are excellent and tastefully done in contemporary style. The food is good and the disc at the basement very happening!! I can't forget one of my experiences of dining at Dum Pukht - one of the restaurants and the very tasty vegetarian dish of Guchhi, one of the rare herbs found in north indian hills! The service is excellent! The location is convenient as it is mid way to both Salt lake and Park Street, the IT hub and commercial hub respectively!! I am sure everyone would like the experience as i did!
