Smile, and you will be honoured.

One of the greatest advantages of Calcutta is that it is a city which can welcome people from any corner of the world. Calcutta is a city with a large heart which gives generously to the people who have the ability to understand its joys and agonies. You need to interact with a lot of people and spend quite sometime in the city to understand this. This 'cultural capital of India' has not lost its heart and its softer qualities in its course of developing into one of the premier metropolitan cities in this part of the world.
Speak to people softly and woth a smile and see the kingly treatment you get! This definitely makes a difference!
Chandernagore, former french colony
by sachara
South of Bandel, 40 KM from Calcutta is Chandernagore. This is a former French colony with churches and convents from the French time.
We visited the dusty historical museum with pictures, objects and furniture of the French governor.
Metro
by Willettsworld
Kolkata is home to India's first underground railway system, (Delhi has India's only other metro system), which started service in 1984. There is just one line that runs for 16.5km north to south from Dum Dum to Tollygunge passing through 15 other stations along the way. A second line has been proposed which will run from Salt Lake City in the east through the city centre, Sealdah and Howrah stations to New Dasnagar in the west. This line may also link up with the city's airport. I found it to be useful for visiting the Victoria Memorial and Kalighat. A ticket in zone 1 for a distance of upto 5km costs just Rs4. Zone 2, distance 5-10km costs Rs6 whilst zone 3 for 10km+ costs Rs8.
Don't miss the continental delicecies!
by Kumarjit about Don Giovanni's
DON GIOVANNI'S at Park Street, Calcutta, can be the most preferable eatery for European tourists. It offers all sorts of Italian food besides Austrian, Americanand french food. However, they keep on changing their menu from time to time.
The restaurant is clean and they are customer- friendly. You will like it! My favourite dish here is Chicken Supremo Pizza. The toppings and the cheese on the pizza can make you forget everything else!
Flavour of Orient.
by goutammitra about Marco Polo in China
Marco polo in China is one of the fine dining place in Kolkata. It is slightly up market in price, location, ambience, service with smile, quality of food. Yes Marco Polo himself would have found this place worh spending his hard earned money. The food, the staff, the owner all come to you with smile. It is guaranteed you can not go out unsatisfied. This place is surely a joint where you would love to take your friends for dinner. We took our VT friend Jon( shintarojon) of Manila on 29th September for lunch, while visiting the Durga Puja pandals.
In Park Street and nearby streets there are about 150 good eating places( Calcuttans love dining out), this place is certainly stands out. This place is also of my daughter's ( Munu) choice. During festival time when there are more people out dining, they also offer Buffet, with about 18 items, including 4/5 non veg and the menu includes Prawns, Lobsters, Crabs for Rs 400/- (USD10) plus tax. You cant ask for more!! worth spending your money. " Everyone eats and drinks yet only few appreciate the taste of food"- Confucius( 551BC- 479BC). Well these are the Restaurant motto written on their card, I find every word is true. I took about 10 pictures of the food and the Buffet spread and had 4 dishes, I find all the dishes are excellent. They have not sacrificed the quality of the food even during the Puja( highly Crowded) time. We got our table at around 4.00PM after waiting for 35mts. We had Prawns( My favourite), Mixed rice, Chicken, Noodle made in my daughters' way( I dont' know she has crave for Chinese noodle). All are excellent.
If you only want food it is about USD 10 Per Person in case you add beer to your accompaniment it is more. We had A La Carte menu.
