chinese food in india...
by redheaney about "Dynasty Restaurant" at the Lytton Hotel
had a lovely Chinese meal at "The Dynasty Restaurant" in the Lytton Hotel. We splurged, at a cost of around US$12.50 each (with drinks!!) Food was pretty good (one never knows when trying a chinese meal in india) with soup, entree and drinks. exceptionally good value really. apologies... can't remember what i had, but more than likely a 'sezchuan' dish... i want to say i braved meat (chicken?) but am not totally convinced i was that brave, looking back.

Where to stay
by traceyspacey
We will be spending 3 nights in Kolkata soon. Our budget is around 800-1000 a night. Can anyone suggest any where to stay with A.C Preferably. We had a really bad experience back in Mumbai with www.benazeerhotelmumbai.com, the room that we had was nothing like the website at all(seriously. Don't want to repeat the experience. Any ideas? Thanks

Most backpackers head for Sudder street there is one or two hotels in your prices range and look very nice from the outside but there's plenty of cheaper hotels around these streets as well.

Foreigners end up in Sudder st which has multiple options and qualities to offer although other places can be good. Advantage with Sudder St is you can check around for options and then check in ( do bargain hard). You will need AC. If there are at lesat 2 of you and dont arrive at very late hours, suggest 1 person wait with luggage at YMCA / Salvation Army in Sudder St. Get guidance from tourists about the places they have put up in and best avoid local smooth talkers as they may be touts. Same may not be truye in non Sudder St locations.
Enjoy Kolkata

I would suggest Lytton Hotel on Sudder Street, it should fit your budget and I have heard their service is very good.
