Train help !

by avilasoa

I'm trying to book train tickets from Kolkata to Varanasi, but there are various options for Varanasi. I've tried all the options but none are giving me train times...

Can someone help?

Re: Train help !

by vdadu

Kindly visit

www.cleartrip.com

and click 'train search' tab (available in the footnote)

After that fill in the details and the date of ur journey....keep in mind that some trains are weekly one/twice/thrice....so these trains will only apprear if that train is available on ur journey date.

All though, it is not an official site.....but it is fast and information provided will be reliable.

For official train search, visit

www.indiarail.gov.in

All timing will be in IST and in case u are not able to see the timing details press "Get Schedule" tab on the page where trains are listed after searching for particular journey date.

I hope this will be helpful.
For any further query, u are most welcome

Keep smiling
Vivek Dadu

You can visit www.indianrail.gov.in for all traintimings.

Re: Train help !

Hi,

Indianrail.gov.in doesn't allow you to book the tickets... it only displays the schedules and fares.... so if you are trying to book the tickets... go through the indian railway's official website www.irctc.co.in ... as it provides you all the train information and allows you to book the tickets online paying through your credit card... and you can instantly get an e-ticket....

Indiarail.gov.in takes you to irctc.co.in when you click on internet reservation. You can go thru any one of the websites as it doesn't matter.

Travel Tips for Kolkata (Calcutta)

Coconut Vendors, coconut- god's gift !!!

by goutammitra

Like in any other country West Bengal also has lot of Coconut available. This coconut vendor is like many other 100s of vendors in and around Kolkata sells coconut for very cheap. In Kolkata you will get coconut in almost every corner of the city, price is about Rs.5 to Rs.6/- about 20Cents.

Just try this. It is really the best gift of God.

South Park Street Cemetary

by nepalgoods

Opened iin 1767, the cemetary replaced the yard of St . John's Church in the ruins of the old fort. The last tombs were erected around 1830. The area was than a bamboo forest outside of the city of Calcutta. Now it is a 10 minutes walk from Sudder Street. The cemetary is a quite green park now. I like it at a refuge from all the noice and hassle of Calcutta's modern streets.

It is very interesting to read the scripts of the tomb. Most people burried here belonged to the British Army. From the dates of birth and death you can see, that at that time many people died early, the officers of malaria and other tropical diseases and the women died giving birth to a child in this hot and infested area.

Flight to Calcutta

by Kumarjit

Calcutta has one of the biggest airports in India and the city is well connected to the other parts of India and abroad. If you are a European tourist or an American tourist, then the best possible way for you to come to Kolkata is to take a British Airways or a Lufthansa flight. British Airways flies three times a week to Kolkata, direct from London, while, Lufthansa flies to Calcutta three times a week direct from Frankfurt. Recently, Air India has started direct flights to London from Kolkata. You can also avail of other Asian Airlines.
If you are an Asian tourist coming to Calcutta from an Asian country or from Australia, then you can take Singapore Airlines, Air Malaysia, Thai Airways or Air Emirates and even Cosmic Air. All these airlines fly to Calcutta five days a week.
Certain other airlines like Gulf Air, Saudi Arabian Airlines, Druk Air, GMG Airlines and Biman Bangladesh also have flights to and from the Kolkata International Airport.
For further details you can contact the offices of these airlines in your city or your travel agent.

The domestic Airlines that operate from Kolkata to other parts of India are:
1. Indian Airlines: www.indian-airlines.com
2. Jet Airways; www.jetairways.com
3. Jetlite: www.jetlite.com
4. Kingfisher Airlines: www.flykingfisher.com
5. Indigo Airlines: www.goindigo.in
6. Spicejet Airlines: www.spicejet.com
7. Air Deccan: www.airdeccan.net

If you ever embarking yourself...

by edachsund

If you ever embarking yourself here, I should suggest you to check out a small restaurant around Sudder Street not far from Salvation Army hostel called 'Blue Sky Cafe'. Small place but clean and tidy. I just love and miss their banana milk shake and roti masala. ermmm yummy! friendly environment and 'chai' as well.... haa..

Don't visit this place!! Unless......

by goutammitra about Charcol at Purna Das Road, Ballygunge.

Dont make a mistake of going to this place by the look of it. The first person you encounter with is the main stewart who is perhaps the most ill-behaved man of the hospitality industry. Most probably the owners of this eating joint do not take into account the importance of customer satisfaction. Otherwise the present crew(staff) would not be there. The food is good but you will loose your apetite the moment you find cockroaches all over your table. But one thing that i would like to say is that their is no repentance from the side of the staff members for their mannerisms. The ambience of the place is good. Inspite of it a person will not be ready to go their a second time.
With this kind of behaviour this place will not last long in a place like Calcutta where along with good food, and ambience good behaviour and service matters a lot. We had Peshwari Raan, a Full leg of Lamb marinated for 24hrs and then Barbecued in slow fire. We had Lasuna Paratha, parathas ( a type of Indian bread smeared with Butter prepared in a frying pan) made with garlic. The food was really excellent but we lost apetite.

I will not recommend this place to anybody.

It is clear that management has left this place to be run by their staffs only. Who is ensuring that this place will close down soon. It was not only us who found this place BAD, but the couple next to us found small cockroaches in their table, and a team of ladies were having Kitty party also loudly commented that their service is very poor and crew had no time to look after them.
