On a business trip with lots of moves and short stays, when you get back home it can be very hard to remember the details of the places you stayed; what you liked and what you didn't. So let me write quickly my impressions of the Kenilworth in Kolkuta:
Friendly arrival and gracious check in
Restaurant (buffet) just off the lobby that was accommodating in allowing us to order some appetizers from the menu after the restaurant had closed
Horrible red wine!
A Christmas tree in the lobby, the first I had seen in India in our nearly two weeks
A lobby restroom with an attendant
Must have been a perfectly comfortable room, but I had twin beds. I don't remember not being comfortable though.
Unique Quality: There was a nicer restaurant and a English pub type bar that my colleagues went to but I missed it.
The hotel also arranged box breakfasts for us for our very early morning departure (5 am!)
Standard pleasure and comfort. People were very hospitable. Ambience of the hotel . the lobby was very good and the room decor and interiors were excellent. Very helpful staff and warm outlook. The hotel is in Prime location , close to Victoria Memorial, Eden Gardens, Maidan, Indian Museum, Park Street , all major shopping malls etc.
Unique Quality: The pub and spa was very good
Unique Quality: Once again, this hotel I have not stayed in as such but I do believe that the service is good. The bar/disco called Big Ben is also good. My dance troupe had performed here too and its a relatively nice place to stay in. Very well located and very convenient, around the bend from the US embassy on Harrington Street!
Recently my VT friend Brian Loverty from Toronto informed that he stayed in Kolkata in 1960s. He is an Anglo Indian and left India for good but nostalgia is bringing back him home with his family. So he has booked a hotel for the family over net. I spoke to him and suggested a few other good hotels. This week I had the opportunity to visit two good hotels as we were having training program and conferences for the whole week.
I will rate this hotel is one of the better managed with complete professional touch at a reasonable price ( having Star facilities). I did not go inside the rooms but took photograph at the lobby. But I have seen their rooms many times as this hotel is among our approved hotels and the middle level executives of our company stay here.
Unique Quality: This is located in just central heart of the city, next to American Centre, British High Comission, Tata Centre, various shopping malls, ITC centre and inthe close proximity of Camac Street, Park Street, Theatre Road, and all the happening place of Kolkata! This can be rated as Business class hotel. They have 105, centrally A/C rooms, 4 Restaurants & Bars( Marble Room, Aromas, Alcove, The Big Ben( the English style pub)) They also have 3 fully equipped conference rooms, a beautiful Lawn where they can accomodate 400- 700 people. The crew are a lot of professional polite people always ready to help.
They take booking over net and also offer discount on request or during off season. For reservation one should speak to Ms.Minu.
Directions: Next to Airconditioned market or Metro Shopping Plaza
If you are looking for accommodation in Calcutta at economic rates during your stay, I would definitely recommend The Kenilworth Hotel to you. It is a four star hotel , very clean , has a continental cuisine resturant, an Indian resturant, a discotheque and a bar. It is situated in a very nice area, surrounded by shopping mals, banks, offices and several eateries. The hotel has ordinary deluxe and super deluxe rooms along with suites. The price starts from around 100 dollars a day and can go upto 300 dollars a day. For more information please contact:

Unique Quality: There is a special open-air resturant at the hotel which opens only in the evening. Their continental food is good. You can get pick-up and transfer from and to the airport if you request.
Directions: You can go to the hotel by taking the Theatre Road(Shakespeare Sarani). It is very near to the JK Millenium Centre.
Have stayed at the Kenilworth many times over the years. Keep coming back to it because it offers a restful and elegant feel without the huge costs of the more upscale hotels.
My favorite is the original wing. Rooms are spacious, light and airy. No A/C in the old wing but with the fans going and the shutters open it is perfect. And you don't have to readjust to the heat and humidity when you leave your room.
Note: My last stay here was in the mid 90's. With all the improvements going on in Calcutta there may not be an old wing or an outdoor restaurant. The web says they have a swimming pool now.
Unique Quality: The patio restaurant is pefect after a hard day in Calcutta. A tall chilled Black Label beer and a great meal under the banyan tree does wonders to cut thru the dust and help get your head back on straight!
