Cocon huts: Beachside bliss on Neil Island

by illumina

For 150 rupees a night you get a little hut near to the beach, with just a bed and a mosquito net - the shower-rooms and toilets are across the way and are simple but adequate.

They serve food and sell alcohol - the bar is frequented by locals and can occasionally get a little loud, but we never had any problems.

The huts are within a few yards of the beach, and there are plenty of trees to string a hammock from!

Hotel Shompen: Port Blair's Better Accomodation.

by goutammitra

This hotel is one of the better budget hotels of the island. Located just at the middle point of the city it bmakes the location an advantage. You are near everything almost all tourist points of the city. The hotel has AC/ Non AC rooms and food is good. I did not experience it but those who stayed in this hotel told me. It's any time a better budget accomodation of the island.

Hotel A C C Ltd.: Port Blair's Budget Accomodation.

by goutammitra

I did not stay at this hotel but the name of the hotel made me curious. It is named Hotel ACC Ltd, incidentally the company ( an MNC) I work for also has the same name ACC Ltd, ( hahahaha) but it was established in 1936. I am sure my company is not going to sue the company for using the same name( May be they have up something to prove).

I really got interested in the place because of the location of the hotel. It is located just opposite main bus station of the city( Andaman has very good 333kms long road spreading over the islands) and not every one is tourist with lot of money to spend. Most of the touristy hotels are located on the beach and are very expensive. This hotel may be a suitable place for back packers and for travellers travelling on a shoe string budget and dont want to miss anything as this is a small town, everything is well with in reach and may be within walkable distance. All the touristy hotels serve food, naturally they are expensive but here people can have food in nearby restaurants for as low as Rs.50 to Rs100 ( USD$ 1 to 2).

The rooms are fancy free and with a toilet and running water. I shall rate this place much better than what you get at Sudder Street, Kolkata.

Peerless Sarovar Portico: Port Blair's Better Accomodation.

by goutammitra

I did not stay here but had several visits to have lunch and tea. Their GM Mr.Ranajet Mukherjee( mobile: +91-9932084861) was very courteous to show me their property personally. They also offer packages for three night four days for Rs. 16000 to Rs21000/- ( USD325 to UDS 500) for a couple including all meals and two half day sightseeing. Two children upto 6 years are free but without meals. For extra child Rs.2299 is payable for the package.

The place is situated on the beautiful beach Corbyn's Cove. All rooms have sea facing balcony and set amongst lush green beautiful garden. They also have vey beautiful cottages, one can choose to stay. The place is about 8 km from the airport and 7 kms from City centre. All rooms are airconditioned and backed by generator. They have business centre, banquet hall, bar, very good restaurant. Service is excellent, food is very good.

The hotel is run by the famous Peerless Group of Calcutta, who have chain of good hotels , who offer value for money. The group is in the business of Insurance, financed, hotel etc and have quite a reputation in India.

Fortune Resort Bay Island ( Welcome Group): Port Blair's Best Accomodation.

by goutammitra

Designed by the legendary architect Mr.Charles Correa ( who designed Chandigarh city of India), this place is surely the best accomodation in Port Blair. The location, overlooking the North Bay , is just out of the place. The place is on a hillock, called Mrine Hill, almost near the Naval dockyard, has the best view of the sea and North Bay! I was given one of their best rooms ( 305), the view from the room was fantastic! I could almost see the Sunrise every morning. The room had tea/coffee maker( which was over supplied), I used to make my own tea see the sunrise and communicate with many VT friends with my laptop everyday. I enjoyed every bit of my stay in this hotel.

The food was great, the menu changed everyday, the chef was great! Once, I appreciated his cooking, he almost asked me everyday, what should I cook? He even cooked " Chettnad Chicken" at my request. All the staffs, managers, chefs, reception took personal care and greetings came from every person in the hotel. I even, found the swimming pool people very cooperative, careful and helpful. The room had ample supply of toiletories, towels, bath robes, slippers, fruits, cold drinks. They even cleaned the rooms twice a day!
Before going to Port Blair, I read some hotel review in VT, who made very sarcastic comments about this hotel. I found it totally untrue. I also found, many Europeans, Japanese people staying in this place.

A great place and great experience.

This hotel has 45 rooms, some overlooking the sea. They have a bar called Nicobar and Mandalay Restaurant for multi cuisine meals and sea food. The place has a beautiful salt water swimming pool, a fitness centre, private movie theatre, library, indoor games, conference and everything thing you look in a five star resort.

Megapode nest: Just fine

by sam101103

This is a old, state govt maintained hotel. Not top of the class but location is good. If you have come on a package trip arranged by local agents make sure you do not take the buffet because its really bad. Food on order is fine but due to shortage of staff you may have to wait a while for room service.

Good view and garden

Megapode: Port Blair resort

by callganesh

Megapode is situated on top of a small hill overlooking the sea in Port Blair. Some rooms have a view of the sea and the jetty where one can watch small ships and boats.
The place has a lot of well maintained greenery. the natural ambience is a plus point.
The food is above average but sometimes they have only simplebuffet dinners which cost about Rs250/.
service is above average and the facilities are ok. rooms with a/c, geysers.

We had a comfortable stay there with family.

minus- its not close to the bazaar where you shop.

great sea view and view of the jetty.
hilltop location, greenery is good.
early morning bids chirping.

Fortune Bay Resort by Welcome Group: Andaman Islands, Port Blair

by rinosh

Stayed here on March 11, and then again on March 15. This is apparently the best hotel in Port Blair, it is rated as a Four star. Average by mainland standards, the hotel does have a terrific view of the North Bay in Port Blair. Swimming pool is very small, and has salt water.

The meals included with the package are buffet style. Mix of indian and continental. Food quality is average. There is a small indoor seating with A/C and a nice veranda seating with full view of the bay.

There is also a bar there which seems to have a jungle theme called Nico-Bar. Drinks are surprisingly cheap. One small domestic (indian) gin in bangalore can cost you anywhere betwee Rs. 90 to Rs. 200. In Nico-Bar it was a miserly Rs. 40. Almost made me wish that I didn't carry my own supplies to the islands.

Some stats.

Per night cost: Rs. 5500 which includes three meals a day for a double twin, and Rs. 6000 for a king room. Toilet flush doesn't work initially, just turn the water tap that goest to the toilet. All rooms have A/C. Some rooms are Sea facing with great view. Staff is friendly and generally helpful.

Island Vinnie's: Where to go to dive

by tayloretc

Island Vinnie’s is the lodging that grew up around Dive India, and most of the people staying here are here to snorkel or scuba dive. Like Dive India, the atmosphere is exactly how it sounds on the website.

It’s not the most expensive place on the island, but it’s not the cheapest; it’s turned out well enough for the prices. The cabanas are relatively spacious canvas tents with attached baths, and have a hammock and rocking chairs on the porch. The huts are bamboo weave, which I found more pleasant even though they’re just about the size of the bed and are less private – closer together, with mats for doors and attached baths partially without a roof. There’s a small open air restaurant that serves lunch and dinner.
