More about Taj Chandigarh

Modern, clean, comfortable

by TripAdvisor Member upg_uk

The Taj Chandigarh is a contemporary hotel with all the amenities and facilities you can expect. It’s a proper 5 star hotel as per International standard and we had a great stay but need more time in hotel to appreciate it even more. We all loved it. The food was good, polite enough staff and great value for money as you must book well in advance to take advantage of their Early Bird rates online. This hotel is only 5mins walk from Sector 17, the busy hub for shopping/eating out. It is centrally located for all the sightseeing as well.
The only 2 points which they can improve on is: The Happy hour in the lounge which is part of the Luxury Room package, it took 35-40mins for our drinks to arrive and when they did arrive we could hardly taste any alcohol in it, clearly goes to show they were trying to save on alcohol/drinks but otherwise they were good to provide coffee/tea, water in the room but once again did not give us wine in the room until asked which was a part of the package. It seems they are stingy with their alcohol.
Some of the reception staff is very quick to make negative assumptions or look down on people whom we witnessed when they were dealing with other guests whilst trying to make payment with the debit card and did not go through the first time which could have simple been a link down error!
The summary we will definitely go back to Taj as it seems to be the best, cleanest hotel in Chandigarh.

Very Good

by TripAdvisor Member vertigo1

My wife, 3 yr old daughter and I stayed at the Taj for 1 night in August 2007. It was a good experience. I have been travelling to India and staying in hotels for nearly 9 years and this was certainly in the top 10 of my personal best hotels. The Oberoi Cecil (Shimla) (9 out of 10) and Oberoi Maiden (Delhi) (8 out of 10) are nos 1 and 2 - this lacks their character because of its faux futurist design BUT that aside the experience is a very positive one. I would give the Taj a very well earned 6.4 out of 10.

The building looks at bit 70's futuristic. We initially stayed in a 'superior' room with limited daylight. We upgraded to a luxury room and though this was more expensive the experience was infinitely better. The city view was excellent and the huge window ensures a lot of natural daylight enters the room. The overall ambience of the hotel is very contrived futuristic and as long as one does not take this too seriously that is not a problem. The place was clean, the staff extremely courteous and helpful.

We dined in the Indian restuarant - the food was among the best I had encountered in India. As strict vegetarians, our standards are extremely high and seldom fulfilled - however, the food was plentiful, varied and very tasty. Overall, extremely good.

I would recommend the hotel without hestitation.

Wonderful Taj

by TripAdvisor Member MaggieS1

Had a one night stay at the Taj for the first time and can honestly say it was one of my best hotel experiences! The rooms are very modern with all the facilities a business traveller needs and the beds are sensational. Room rates were very reasonable for India and the front desk service is excellent. The fitness centre is probably a little on the small side and the restaurant service could use some polish, but all in all a wonderful experience.

Best hotel in Chandigarh - Taj Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member PremBirmingham

We stayed at the Taj Hotel for 10 days and found it to be one of THE best hotels that we have stayed in India. It offered all features of a traditional 5star hotel in ambient settings, the food, decor, rooms and hotel is very modern and can suit all travellers both local and foreign. The staff were excellent ranging from desk staff to catering staff who were exceptional, we would like to thank Vikram, Vivek, Basu, Vaneet (Restaurant Manager) and all staff in the restaurant for offering an exceptional service. We recommend the Taj hotel and would be staying there again in our next visit very soon. In addition the Hotel had an outdoor swimming pool which would be great to use in the hot months, a 24 hour taxi service, bar and an indian and chinese dining cuisine. Prices for the hotel are not cheap but well worth the money for the service provided by the hotel. PREM & SHAM - BIRMINGHAM,UK.

The ONLY hotel in Chandigarh worth talking about

by TripAdvisor Member timborules84

Its lucky to be the only decent hotel in Chandigarh but is hasnt taken for this for granted and still has great facilities.

The rooms are very comfortable and the the restaurants are good and the gym, average.

The best features are the lobby, shops and location.

Perfect 5*

by TripAdvisor Member Dosanjh

We stayed at the Taj in April this year, all i can say is it is fantastic. We stayed in the Luxury room and had access to the private lounge in which we saw cricketer Yuvraj Sing and bollywood actress Preity Zinta, was a treat!

Absolutely loved the room, it was spacious, very modern and contempory, 42 inch plasma, very very comfy bed, beautiful bathroom.

I have stayed in some nice hotels (Burj al arab in dubai, 7*) and this hotel was at a fraction of the price and worth every penny.

I will stay again without a doubt!!

An annoying, annoying place to stay

by TripAdvisor Member Ian_Pratt

The Taj is a perfect example of what poor management can do to a hotel.

The physical facilities of the Taj are generally of a good standard. The rooms are large and airy, the bathrooms well-appointed and other guest facilities are of a high standard.

There is a general sense, however, that the hotel has been somewhat let go. The internet does not work. The furniture is dirty. Very little in the room operates as it should.

Worst of all, however, are the staff. We had a beer in the downstairs lounge and could not finish and get out quickly enough...the vibe was that uncomfortable. Basically, we were stared and sneered at until we packed up, paid the absurd bill, and walked out.

Likewise, every little task was made difficult. We requested a taxi and were told that nothing would be available for 25 minutes, despite there being a huge taxi stand directly across the street. The pressure to pay 5 times the normal taxi rate to book a hotel car was intense, and when we refused we were treated very poorly. This was the nature of most dealings with staff and it seriously rankled over the course of the stay. In the end, it was just too uncomfortable to be at all enjoyable.

The Taj should be a very good hotel. Sadly, it is far from it.

Good Business Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member PuckStop

I stayed here for 2 nights, and it was a good experience. My stay coincided with that of both the Australian and Indian national cricket teams, so security was incredibly high - I think the number of police in and around the hotel out-numbered the guests. I didn't feel threatened and was not hindered by the security.

The hotel is very western and clean with very nice amenities. The rooms were large, clean and nicely organized. The internet connection was so-so, but I was able to perform the basics without too much trouble. The workout facility was well equipped and convenient. The buffet breakfast (maybe not offered with the room rate) has a lot of selection and is pretty tasty. I didn't have to interact with the hotel staff very often, but when I did they were helpful and friendly.

I'm not sure about the other hotel offerings in Chandigarh, but if TripAdvisor rated hotels in this city my guess is it would probably be in the top 3 easily.

Great Service

by TripAdvisor Member puneetschdv

Had to visit chandigarh for a short rip. Taj the best option among hotels in chandigarh. Rooms are great and service awesome. Everyone of staff is cool but the chefs. Food is not so good so one can get out to any of the restaurents there are so many in chandigarh. Many nearby Taj. Otherwise its good enough place to be.

an oasis in a desert

by TripAdvisor Member JBALondon

Chandigarh has some hotels under construction, but until then, this is the only good hotel in town. Nice good sized rooms and big comfortable beds. Not much of a view. Pool is large and gym adequate. Good service and excellent Indian restaurant. The waterfall courtyard is a great cosy space. Bar is just okay.
