"daman - cheap liqour & history"

ok so we decided to go to daman - three hours drive from mumbai. Mistake - it was in the middle of summer... not, NOT a favorable time to go there at all... we were stuck inside the hotel room till abt 4 pm... and the day we did brave the heat to venture out - it was like a sauna... (and moi being Indian and being used to the humidity of bombay)... humidity was so high... we just sweated it out - we here being my wife and four year old son... we stayed at cidade de daman (no connection to the beautiful goa property). it was full of cockroaches... so when we ordered room service we had guest roaches waiting for left-overs!!! lots of insecticide sprays did not help... the staff said that the high tourist season had just got over so they had not had the time to clean up... hahaha... but this is one of the few hotels here that has a grt view... its right on the beach... the pool is nice. and the service is good. the best part of course is LIQOUR IS CHEAP. Avoid going on weekends - as liqour-starved Gujrat (prohibition) lands up there.

daman - a former portuguese colony still has managed to retain its old structures. daman is divided into 2 - nani daman & moti daman. the historic part moti daman has some grt churches to view - some of them more than 400 years old!! the trip was worth it. there is a beautiful cemetery near the jetty that is worth a dekko. and the people here are very helpful. and we found mental solace and shelter (from the heat) in the churches of daman.
