Ice chest and ice

by NYTim

Fellow VT's

Can anyone tell me where, in Delhi, I can purchase an ice chest, ice and beer?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Ice chest and ice

by shoma

why dont you go to sarojini market or lajpat market to buy these things?

also you could try janpath area or paharganj

happy hunting...

Re: Ice chest and ice

Hi
you will find it at most of the local shopping area. And "Ice Depot" can also be found at these places. Do let me know the place you intend staying.

And there are many Wine shops which sells Chilled Beer in Bottles/Cans. But Ice will be a good option to have it at your leisure.

BTW which brand do u prefer. In Delhi Kingfisher, Foster are pretty famous.

Thanks for you help. I am staying at: Near Crossing of Shankar Road and Ganga Ram Hospital Road
at R-500, New Rajinder Nagar

Can I buy the ice chest, ice and beer from the stores in Connaught Place, which is not too far away?

When I eat Indian food here in New York City, I drink Kingfisher or Taj Mahal beer.

Thanks again

Re: Ice chest and ice

Hi
I don't think u will need to worry about the ice chest, as the place will have a fridge. If not then an ice chest can be bought at Shankar Road Market and also the ice. There is one Wine shop in Old Rajinder nagar(across the road) but he runs out of stock quite fast. There is one at Gole Market. Must be more at Karol Bagh.

Kingfisher should be easy to find. I have not heard of Taj Mahal beer.

See you soon in India.

pack for all weather!

by PCuk

You may expect India to be hot and sunny, but beware!!The best times to visit are in the Nov-Mar period, however in January the weather in Delhi was foggy with sunny spells and often quite cool..so take your shorts (especially if youre going elsewhere) but also take sweatshirts, jackets and even scarf and gloves (obviously this might not apply in the summer months)

Buddha Jayanthi Park

by RAJASTHANBYCAR

The Buddha Jayanti Park is situated in southern part of the Delhi ridge in New Delhi.A beautifully gilded statue of Buddha stands under a pavilion in an artificial island in the park. The park laid out to commemorate the 2500th anniversary of Lord Buddha's attainment of Nirvana, the garden provides an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. The park has a Bodhi tree that is a sapling of the original enlightenment tree from Sri Lanka and planted in the commemorating park. The park is full of flowers and the garden is pleasant and charming for rest and walk.
The park is a popular with morning walkers and joggers. It is also a favorite rendezvous of the young couples who can be seen getting cozy in every available corner. There are numerous play facilities for the children.
The park is the venue for the celebration of the Buddha Jayanti Festival in May every year. Public discourses on the teachings of Buddha are frequently held in the park and they are very popular with the foreign tourists.

Motorcycle hire and driving

by 900triple

The way to get around Delhi is by auto-rickshaw. Easy, cheap and great fun. For longer trips and colonial luxury go by white Ambassador taxi (like a Morris Oxford). For the real adventure and for trips outside Delhi you should go by Enfield motorcycle. Make it a 500cc for comfort. The roads are not as mad as they look! Driving in Delhi/India is by the law of size. Everyone expects to give way to the bigger vehicle - you can work it out, people, rickshaw, motorcycle, car, va, Tata truck etc...
There is only one person to contact for the hire of an Enfield and that is Lalli Singh. Lalli is very experienced in dealing with/helping toursits/travellers and rest assured you will not be ripped off. The bikes are expertly prepared and a breakdown service is available. Do not even try anyone else.
