Is it safe to travel in Delhi and Agra India along?

Re: backpacker

by kaps_4

Hi!!

It is quite safe if you are aware of things and well planned : even if you are male / female. I am not scaring you. Mind you Delhi is a wonderful city if you take a little care.

1) Just don't get over friendly with people who show more interest and may be wanting to take you around ( tour... etc ) otherwise if you ask for directions, people are more then ready to help you out......

2) If you are travelling in Delhi by "auto-rickshaw"....3 wheeler or TAXI, always fix a rate and don't go by "meter" or you will be taken for a royal ride....eg: for a Rs 40 ride you will charged Rs 80/-But for short distances us " Auto"
Metro has made travelling easier in Delhi, so that's one for you and as far as possible don't travel by bus, it's a nightmare especially with a female with you unless you want to experience it.

3) I would not advise you to travel after 7:30 pm / 8 pm in Delhi if you have female with you. No problems as such but why take a risk.

4) Delhi to Agra has a fablulous train so that shouldn't be a problem for you. After you arrive in Agra. hire a "Taxi for full day or 2 days" which will show you Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri. Aleast hire a Taxi in Agra to see mentioned places. IF you stick around in Agra city and travel by Auto it shouldn't be a problem.

take care

Travel Tips for Delhi

Unless you want a 'Maharaja...

by topoftheworl

Unless you want a 'Maharaja Mac' stay away from the McDonalds. Stick to local food, its great. Drink only bottled water, unless you want an attack of the 'Delhi Belly' and eat street foods hot out of the whatever and cooked before your eyes, 'Chaat' at the South Extension shopping complex. Indian Tapas. Very, very hot. Guaranteed to clear your sinuses AND flush your insides the next morning.

School children

by Willettsworld

These school children were in the Qutb Minar complex in southern Delhi. Indian school children are the best behaved children I've ever come across. There are so orderly and quiet and do exactly what they're told by their teachers. If this was in my own country then they would be running amock and being loud and obnoctious. But here they are inquizative, smile and wave at you so you have to do the same back to them and say hello as well out of politeness. They also like their picture taken as well!

a sight to behold

by jag_hond

the time's here. the mughal gardens are open. even if you dont know a thing about flowers - like me - and dont have any interest in them beyond the external beauty etc - like me again, this place is a must to visit - at least once.

its gorgeous.. a riot of colours and some breathtaking scenes.. any verbal description is not enough to sell the idea, so a chance will have to be taken!! but definitely check it out.. sorry, no photos tho

Connaught Place

by Willettsworld about Cloths

Connaught Place is a great place to do some shopping with western chains such as Woodlands, Dockers, Levi's, Reebok and Nike being located here. There are also many other clothes and shoes shops for both sexes and also bookstores, jewellery and electrical shops (found in the underground Palika Bazaar). Its a rather confusing place to navigate around and you do end up going round in circles!

Car hiring

by Rupanworld

Delhi has a very popular business of car renting and it is relatively easy to find an agency for that. There are loads. There are hourly rates as well as distance based rates. For rough idea, I can say, around Rs. 550 (non-AC car) for 80 kilometers/8 hours. That's pretty cheap I guess, atleast I myself avail the services often.
