seeking self catering short term accommodation in Delhi
by gkmcmanus
I'm travelling to Delhi for ten days with my wife and two teenage children in late Dec early Jan. As one child has a food allergy we wish to prepare our own food. I'm seeking information about houses, flats, apartments, hotels with kitchen facilities or anything else suitable ?

It will be quite difficult to find something with self catering facilities for just 10 days. Most guesthouses and hotels don't provide it. Also late Dec early
Jan is high season and it would be a good idea to have a booking. Make a google search and perhaps also post your question on the Lonely Planet India forum. Sometimes people who live in Delhi answer and might know something. Good luck.

Travel Tips for Delhi
Humayun's Tomb
by SirRichard
The first impression you get here is seeing a little Taj Mahal in red, surrounded by nice gardens.
This magnificient building was the last resting place of the second Mughal emperor, who strived all his life to be in Delhi, the city he loved. It was built in 1565 by Humayun's widow Beca began, popularly known as Haji Begam, 9 years after her husband's death. It has octagonal plan, lofty arches, pillared kiosks and couble dome. It is also the first example in India of the garden-tomb concept which culminated in the Taj Mahal at Agra. Mathura Rd. Take the train to Nizamuddin Station, then walk some 500 m.
Cows
by diageva
Well its known that cows walk through the streets nearly where ever they want ... I thought they all respect them ... but not all indians treat them well :)) ... they are push to get out of the way ... they get food from the rubish of the markets and also of some people that gave them food.
Humayuns Tomb...

More pictures of Humayuns tomb here...
The design is said to have inspired the design of the Taj Mahal, which was built by Humayun's grandson- Shah Jahan.
You can look up more info on the monument at the tip for the same under `things to do' on my page...
India's Oldest Toy Store!
by husain about Ram Chander and Sons
Tucked away next to Odeon Cinema in Connaught Place, is a very interesting toy store called Ram Chander and Sons, which also proclaims proudly that it is India's oldest.
It seems that they started in 1890, albeit that was in another city. The Delhi store has been around since 1934, almost from the time that Connaught Place was built. The store has an eclectic mix of some very interesting toys... many of which are imports though. But if you are looking for something specific for your kids, this is the place to get it from. The proprieter who you will find at the shop counter is an interesting person and very helpful with your querries. If they dont have it in stock, they may be able to order it for you.
They have all kinds of toys- for all ages, multimedia education cd's, and other interesting stuff.
I go there to pick up scale models of aircraft- military and civil. Some die cast and others that are ones that you put together patiently at home- piece by piece.
Flights,buses and trains...
by ASHFAQUE
Flights, buses and trains connect Delhi with most cities. The Rajdhani and the August Kranti are 2 well known and comfortable trains which take about 18hrs from Mumbai-Delhi.
Airlines include Jet Airways,Indian Airlines and Sahara Airline Inquire about bus travel from the Tourist offices.I'm sorry,i dont have a clue!:) (that's coz it would take me MORE than a few days in getting to Delhi from Mumbai via bus!)
It's extremely tough getting around in Delhi,as compared to a city like Mumbai.Taxis and autorickshaws roam the streets in search of foreigners who they can overcharge! The best bet would be renting a car.
