Delhi to Surat

by gita48

Hi am arriving in Delhi at 10.35am at international airport and then fly to Surat at 1.30pm is this enough time to clear customs and get to domestic terminal. This is my first time in India any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance Gita

Re: Delhi to Surat

by Durfun

Hi, tight, but certainly doable - I've done it in lesser time.

Good luck.

Re: Delhi to Surat

by lynnehamman

Gita normally this would be ok- but Delhi ( and all of India) unfortunately often has flight delays (weather etc) so it may present a problem......just hope for the best if you can't do otherwise. (make some 2nd plan in case)

Re: Delhi to Surat

by Avijayan

10.35am during summer there certainly wont be any fog, unless your flight gets delayed from your start destination.

You are likely to land by 11am and clear customs by 12 noon, which is enough time to procure your boarding pass for the domestic flight and clear security.

You may want to rush to request co-passengers to give you preference as in the que at the customs, sometimes 2-3 passengers could eat up 20 mins, if they are unable to comprehend english properly.

DDA Sports complexs and new stadiums

by husain

The commonwealth games 2010 held in the city, have meant a lot of new sports infrastructure being created... New and rennovated stadiums are littered all across the city now. Its a challenge on how to utilise this fresh capacity now that the games are over.

Also, the Delhi Development Authority has a number of sports complexes around the city.
They offer a range of options- golf, tennis, hockey, soccer, basketball, badminton, swimming, fitness centers and of course cricket- amongst other sports.

The Siri Fort sports complex is one of the first, and probably one that offers the best facilities, including several new ones built or the commonwealth games...
Membership can be corporate membership, or even temporary 3 months and daily casual usage options. Golf clubs and balls can be rented... for most other sports, you get your own stuff.

Purchase Purchase Purchase!

by DidiMurohy about Chadni Chowk, other bazaars

Chadni Chowk is a VERY famous shopping bazaar in India. If you are in Delhi, this is a MUST-SEE! When shopping, make sure to check the prices of your chosen item in many stores, or you will definitely buy something for a higher price than you could have!
Bargain AWAY! Make sure to ask 1/2 of the price of what is posted, and then go from there, you will find that you will get many good deals this way. There are gorgeous cloths, pottery, other sandalwood carving, EVERYTHING! Not much, remember, in India 100 rupees is = to 2.5 American Dollars! So keep that in mind when buying!

Getting around this huge city

by travelmad478

Delhi is pretty enormous, and most of the city is not well-suited for walking--it's too big, too hot, and the sidewalks tend to be filthy or non-existent in most places. The areas right around the Red Fort (Old Delhi) and Connaught Place are walkable, but to get to most of Delhi's major sights you will need to use a vehicle. Three-wheeler open taxis are a good and cheap method of getting around town--especially now that the air pollution in Delhi has abated somewhat. If it's summer, do yourself a favor and hire a car with air conditioning--the heat, dust, and pollution will kill you. Be prepared to spend a lot of time getting from one place to another, since Delhi is a huge city.
