karol bagh
by Anastasia73
Anybody can recommend me a good quality beauty salon in Karol Bagh?
Is it possible to change UAE Dirham in local foreign exchange?
Thanks

Have you been to Karol Bagh? It is a bit of a dump like most of Delhi.

I would not have thought that the Karol Bagh district is not really the place to look for a good salon. As the previous person said, it isn't really a smart area and it full of budget hotels and is a bit run down. Actually, thats a bit harsh, it is just not fashionable but more of a good reasonably priced place to stay.
I would recommend just trying to find a salon in a different district and just get a taxi or tuc-tuc to take you there and back. This type of transport in Delhi is very cheap.

There is a Metro stop right at Karol Bagh which can whisk you almost anywhere in the city

Structures within the fort
by husain
After the `First war of independence' in 1857, or as the British called it: `the sepoy mutiny', where there were several armed uprisings against the occupation of India by the British thru the `East India Company', much of the Red fort was occupied and destroyed by the British army.
Many of the structures within were razed and Barracks were built in their place for British troops.
The contrasting architecture within the fort still survives and the somewhat ugly barracks can still be seen right in the middle of some of the most elegant buildings from the Mughal era...
Large parts of the fort were also used by the Indian Army in recent years to house soldiers, but the courts ordered them to vacate recently and the remaining part of the fort is due to be handed back to the Archeological Survey soon and opened to the public

You have heard about traffic problems? ... there was not so many traffic jam ... what is more carasteristic is the way they drive. They are always with the claxon ... the street is noisy as no other I have been at. Bigs cars make their claxon sound for make little ones to move off ... every body makes their claxon sound all the time with no stop ... :)))))))))))

Underground police station
by Rupanworld
I guess this must not be an amazing thing for most of the tourists from the developed nations of the world, but it is unusual for India. Just in front of the Red Fort, on the main road, one can see the underground police station. Ever since the Red Fort has been given the status of a UNESCO World Heritage, it has been decided that all facilities will be made underground, including transport facilities and the police station (!) in the area around the Red Fort in order to ensure better visibily of the Fort and to help tourists take advantage of less congested area around. I found this really interesting.

Another excellent choice by ‘DaDrifter’ .. does this know where women would like to shop or what. From Dilli Haat we zoomed around the streets of Delhi to Greater Kailashi to this store which was the first location of this chain store. Their products are sourced from all over India. They sell everything from traditional Indian clothing to the more modern style, home products, fabrics and accessories. Arun did a great job of fossicking through the racks and shelves to try and find what I like in my size.. mostly I was out of luck though. Such great patience while I also did the ‘trying on’ bit. I did however settle on a fairly plain Kurta in the hope of later finding a more colourful trousers later on. You must choose carefully as they say they do not permit exchanges.
Rickshaws
by Rupanworld
Paddled rickshaws can still be found in some parts of Delhi, especially the Old delhi and they are good options for short distances. The fare starts from Rs. 5 for one person to Rs. 15. The rickshaws are quite sturdy and worth a ride if you never had one. Upto four adult people can sit in one rickshaw.
