Re: Hotel

by ashok767

I did a bit of search on the internet and it seems to be the same.
However please do look at the revies on tripadvisor

Obviously you have seen their home page

Hope u can take a call.

From the airport you ensure you take a prepaid taxi from the Delhi Police booth, which has a fixed price based on distance. All others try to rip u off.

Take time to go through the wonderful museums and see some of the beautiful Indian artifacts. Going into the Pizza Hut for dinner and having the waiters dance the Chicken and the Macarena in perfect choreographed style.

Teen Murti monument/ India Gate: Family connection

by husain

The Teen Murti monument is located outside Teen Murti Bhavan (which used to be home to Jawahar lal Nehru- India's first Prime Minister, and previous to that- the commander-in-chief of the British forces in India).

The Monument is a memorial to Indian Soldiers killed in action during the first world war, fighting for the Allies/ British. The monument bears names of soldiers from 3 regiments, one of which is `The Hyderabad Lancers', and my Great-Grandfather Major Mohammed Ali Mirza, was one of those soldiers. His name is engraved right on top on that list here. Its something that makes me feel a connection to the city of Delhi and also proud...
India Gate bears his name too, i am told, though its tough to locate where, due to the sheer size of the monument.

Safdarjung's Tomb

by ellsasha

Build in 1753 - 1754 by his son for Mirza Mukin Abul Mansur Khan 'Safdarjung,' it is Delhi's last greatest garden tomb. The tomb situation close to the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences is made from buff colored sandstone with some red sandstone and marble accentuating the Moghul style of architecture. I think that the tomb must have been a "living" monument at some time as there are what appear to be harem quarters to the north, south, east, and west in the four sectioned garden surrounding the tomb. The water channels surrounding the tomb are dry now, pity because they must have added considerable beauty in the past.

by husain about Kimaya/ Ayamik/ etc

One Style Mile is an area in south Delhi which is home to various designer outlets (and also some popular restaurants).
Some of the well known stores that are located here include Kimaya, and Ayamik (which incidentaly is kimaya-spelt backwards!) They stock clothes from some of Indias top designers.
The cream of Delhi's society shows up here to shop. Also, people come here to shop for occassions like weddings etc, where you dont mind being a bit lavish...

Also, the recently opened `emporio mall' in vasant kunj, is a high end designer brands sort of concept.

that apart, Greater Kailash 1, N block market has a few good options too

Auto rickshaws & Tempos

by Willettsworld

Basically an auto rickshaw (a.k.a Tuk Tuk) is a three-wheeled motorised motorcycle with a driver up front and seats for two passengers behind, although I saw many absolutely crammed full with either adults or school children. Tempo's are bigger versions of auto rickshaws. The one's in Delhi have a meter but its never used so you have to negotiate and agree on a price before you start the journey. I look back on my notes over my first few days in India and laugh at how much I was paying for short trips. You can get some idea as to how much things should be if you take a pre-paid autorickshaw (there are stands in Connaught Place and from outside the Toursit Information Office on Janpath). I took one from here to the Qutb Minar some 13km south of the city centre for just Rs70 considering I was paying around this figure for trips of just a few km's when I was negotiating a price up front. Bear this in mind when the driver's quote Rs100 to start with!
