Delhi > Punjab by bus & Luggage storage at Delhi airport

by oceania26

I'm planning to take the bus to Jalandhar from the Delhi airport which I will pre-book from home (probably Indo Canadian). However, I heard you can no longer catch the bus from the airport, you have to go to the bus station. Can anyone tell me how much the taxi ride will cost from the airport to the bus station. Also how safe is it for me to take the taxi alone, my flight lands at 11pm. I'm hoping to find someone on my flight who is taking the bus too but in the event I don't, do bus companies offer to pick you up from the airport?

Also, returning I have a several hours before my flight departs from Delhi - is there anywhere I can safely and securely store my luggage at the airport while I do some shopping? Any recommendations on where to go shopping would be appreciated too - purses, shoes, tops, shawls, decorative piece, etc.

Thanks!

Taxi fare should be approx Rs 300-350 which will include night charges. Go to the Delhi police manned 'pre paid' taxi counter located in the arrival hall. This service is safe as the police will note down details of you, your destination, etc. Also tell the police that the driver should be alone i.e. he should not have any co driver with him.

Dear Friend,

There are some Indo Canadian bus (Special for Punjabi client) which pick you up from airport and drop to you in Jalandhar. Once u reach at airport to have to come out from airport lounge and then out side the parking you can ask with people regarding that bus.

My suggestion would be if you didn't get the bus, then don't go to bus station at nite wait for early morning bcoz in bus station is not save for women at nite. Better to wait for sunshine and take a taxi from prepaid station in airport. It would take min. Rs. 300/400 to bus station. Either you can try for early morning tarin to Jalandhar.

Regarding the Luggage at International airport, there is no such facility. there is one domentary to up your lugagge at car parking in international airport. my suggestion would be take day use room at hotel in Karolbagh Area which will be of Rs. 1000 not more then that. put ur luggage there. Even Karolbagh is a shop centre and Connaught Place (shopping centre) is also near to it, hardly 15 min drive from Karolbagh. If you go to international airport to put ur baggage only and come back again to shopping centre it would very much costly to u.

Shopping centre: Karolbagh, Connaught Place, Chandi chowk, South Extn, Sarojani Nagar & Lajpat Nagar..these are famous shopping center in Delhi

trust above will help you. Need any help please feel free to mail me.

yes you rite..hahah sorry!! But i get to know from you that they didn't pick up the client from airport, perviously it was from airport.
My suggestion would be better to have their no, once you reach there call them and fix your appointment, where to meet and it is obviously you will meet some other person also in airport who is going to same destination and by same travel company. Don't worry in bus station there is police station also. From which bus station you will get this bus is it ISBT station.

Travel Tips for New Delhi

Street barber

by l_joo

Somewhere off the beaten path in New Delhi is not easy, but I try to show you a scene where a barber is shaving someone's beard under a tree. I don't know where exactly this location is, somewhere behind the McDonald's I guessed, it was very hot then, we just strolled along and a guy was following me around said he wants to practice his English with me.

Take bus to Agra

by l_joo

The bus I took was quite easy and cheap. The bus operate every 30 minutes and it cost 110Rs only, 5 hours to Agra. This is one of the best way to get to Agra from ND. This type of bus let you travel with local peoples and you don't have to wake up as early as 5am, anytime take an autorickshaw to Agra Bus Station in ND and wait few minutes there for the bus to go. This bus will send you to the last stop in Agra's bus station nearby the railway station....more in my Agra transportation tips.

Stately government halls

by Tijavi

New Delhi is the seat of the federal government of the Republic of India, the world's largest democracy.

And the government buildings that line New Delhi's main avenues never fail to convey the message that you are in the world's largest democracy - grand and stately they stand - just as mesmerizing and awesome as the brand of democracy they represent (read: recently unexpected change in government where a Catholic Italian-born widow was on her way to becoming PM of more than 1 billion people, until of course she declined the nomination).

India Gate

by Willettsworld

Built in 1931 and designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, this 42 m high stone arch of victory, universally known as India Gate, stands at the eastern end of Rajpath and is one of the symbols of India. It was previously officially known as the All India War Memorial. The names of the 90,000 Indian Army soldiers who died in the First World War, Afghan campaign of 1919 and the North-West Frontier operations are inscribed on the walls of this grand structure. An enternal flame burns in memory of the soldiers who died in the 1971 India-Pakistan War.
