A great "day hotel" before departure

The Ashok Country is a very nice 4 star hotel property. I originally noticed it as we were selecting our Delhi stay hotel. I rejected the Ashok as our visit hotel because of its location - it's out near the Indira Gandhi International Airport, and a good 45 minute drive to anywhere of tourist interest in New Delhi.

However, as I continued putting our trip together, it became apparent that our homebound flight was bound to leave late at night. Faced with the prospect of spending 8-10 hours hanging around the airport before a late return flight, I begin investigating the possiblility of getting a hotel rooms for "the afternoon". I fully expected to pay for a night's lodging, so I was carefully selecting based on facilities and price. Much to my happy surprise, I learned that the Ashok sold some rooms on a day basis, for occupation between 1200 and 2100 hours. PERFECT. And of course, this meant the price was a lot lower.

Summing up, if you are looking for a GREAT place to rest up and shower before a late evening airport departure, the Ashok Country is about the best choice you could make. Rooms are comfortable and quiet. The bathrooms have plenty of good, hot water for a shower. And, there's a health club, including Ayurvedic massage facilities, and a beautifully maintained and inviting swimming pool. Whatever would make you happy for a few hours before a flight - it's here. The restaurant is also good, too. (You'll like the "tent style" draperies on the ceiling)

If, for some reason, you're OK with staying at a hotel outside of the city during your time in Delhi, then the Ashok Country is an excellent choice as well. It's just that, for me.... it was too far from the city center to be our visit hotel.

Unique Quality: Comfortable rooms.
Modern, clean bathrooms with LOTS of nice, hot water in the shower.
Nice pool and health club.
Massage.
Good food in the restaurant. (Piccadilly's)
Excellent service and a friendly welcome.

Delhi IGI airport hotel

An ideal and inexpensive hotel if you are flying in or out of Indra Ghandi International. This hotel is just 4 km from the airport yet is quiet and in its own grounds with hardly an aeroplane to be heard. It has clean comfortable rooms and the grounds are well kept. It is an ideal hotel to stay at if you are leaving Delhi late in the day as even if you check out at the normal time, you can relax by the pool for the remainder of the day and use their sizable changing rooms and showers prior to setting off. There are no shops nearby, but a 10 min Tuk Tuk ride will get you into basic shopping areas. The center of Delhi around Connaught Circus is apprx 16 km from this hotel

Unique Quality: Its location is the number one feature of this hotel together with its nice pool and a very attentive pool service providing drinks and snacks all day.
When arriving at the airport be careful you tell the driver that you are wanting to go to Ashok Country Resort NOT the Ashok Hotel which is tottally different, and is 30 mins away almost in downtown.
If you have any problems at this hotel their Director Mr. Varinder Sahni can usually be found in and around the pool area and he is certainly very approachable.

I'm staying there soon (March 22). It was recommended by our travel agent because we need to stay close to the airport for a 3:00 AM departure the next morning. As you probably know, websites rate it anywhere between 3 to 5 stars. I like it because it's relatively small. Good luck.
