Toys, Clothes, Jewelleries
by Kumarjit about Chandni Chowk Market
I have been to many places in Delhi, but the market place that I liked very much was the Chandni Chowk Market. The area may seem conjested, but you can get anything here from toys to clothes and much more. There are shops which sell goods at very cheap rates, while others offer quality goods at high prices. You can go to Chandni Chowk if you are visiting Delhi. But be aware of fake goods and sellers who promise to give quality goods at cheap prices. At Chandni Chowk I usually prefer buying toys and small to medium birthday gifts or presents. This entirely depends on what you are buying and from which shop. However, you can expect to spend INR 1000 to INR 10,000 (USD 25 to USD 250)
My most favourite restaurant in the world!
by joidevivre about Karim's
I love Karim's. I have not been a very adventurous gourmand in Delhi, having never discovered the fabled Afghan quarters of the old city with its fabulous food. Or even ventured into one of the dozen odd little places that flank Karim's to check out the competition. Perhaps after being led into Karim's by generous friends, I just didn't need to look further.
The ambience........well depends on how you define ambience. Pretentious it is not. Neither is the menu a mile long. But the food remains consistently good. If you want a taste of one aspect of Delhi's rich culinary history, do visit. Karim's I've been told they make great Nihari, but I've been too much of a lazy bum to wake up early to make a Nihari trip to Karim's. Almost everything they make is wonderful (except the vegetarian stuff, if you want veggie food, go elsewhere). But especially good are Burra (the goat meat one), roghan josh, stew and the kebabs. The biryani's good, but not exactly their star dish.
Himayun Tomb
by Applelyn
Humayun's Tomb was built by his Persian widow, Haji Begum, around 1562 - 1572 AD. It was the first architectural construction built during Akbar's reign and was constructed on the banks of the Yamuna River. Humayun’s Tomb is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The admission fees is INR 250 for foreigners and video charges is INR 50. The nearest metro station is Kashmir Gate but it is better to take a cab.
DIVINITY IN DEATH - HUMAYUN'S TOMB (2)
by Siddha3th
Based on the description of Islamic Paradise Gardens, the Tomb and its surroundings make for a surreal experience.
There are many layers to this place - different tombs and archways leading up to the monument, expertly designed gardens, and wonderful patches of red earth. Humayun's Tomb itself displays both Indian and Persian styles in some of its tile designs.
All you really need to know about the breathtaking beauty of this structure is that it inspired the greatest monument of them all - The Taj Mahal.
