One day runout
by shadab8
For a single day runout in Delhi start with Lotus temple early in the morning, which is near Nehru Place, then visit Connaught Place for shopping there you would also find Pallika Bazar which is an underground bazar and has lots of deals if you know how to bargain. Head for Hauz Khas Village for an old fort setting sort of park and market for paintings and ethnic artwork, or if you like hustle bustle head for Jama Maszid, for a contemporary downside look. Delhi has extreme temperatures, summers hit around 40-45 C in June-August and later in winter 8-3 C in Dec-Feb, so plan your days accordingly.
CP, CONTINUED
by Siddha3th about CONNAUGHT PLACE
More importantly, there's the atmosphere. A crazy vibe centred around crazy characters - locals, foreigners, businessmen, bargain hunters.
And yet, even within this pandora's box of activities, CP throws up pockets of serenity where you can chill out beneath the shade of a tree and just take it all in.
You should give yourself a minimum of three hours to explore Connaught Place. I'm not suggesting that'll be time enough to explore all that's taking place here - for that you'll need atleast a week! But it'll be enough for you to get acquainted with the flavours of CP.
HUGE HELPING OF AMERICANA
by Siddha3th about THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY!
TGIF is another place to grab a breather in, when you're doing the length & breadth of Connaught Place. The decor here's real funky - traffic signals, a broken down bicycle, and cowboy hats strewn all over. So your lunch will be a lot of things, but not boring! The food's standard fare, following the regular TGIF menu. Portions of course, are huuuge, so go easy while ordering. If you sit close to the front entrance, you can relax and watch people strolling by through the large window.
Humayun's Tomb- A Mughal Marvel
by Preetibandooni
As I entered the main gates I stood in amazement for a few moments completely enchanted with the beauty and simplicity of Humayun’s Tomb. I have visited the city many times earlier but never showed any interest in visiting a mausoleum, fortunately suggested by my friend I finally visited the tomb. This tomb is attributed to Sayyid Muhammad and his father they were patent poet and architects of Mughal courts and the visit to Humayun’s Tomb was very peaceful experience. The entire Humayun’s Tomb complex consists of various buildings designed in exquisite Mughal architecture. The complex is decked with beautifully landscaped gardens designed in exact Mughal style which provides the entire complex a tranquilizing ambience thus it is most deservingly designated as a World Heritage Site
Viceroy palace
by josephescu
The Viceroy palace at the end of the megalomaniac Kingsway (Rajpath) was inaugurated in 1929. Although visits are not permitted, the palace and his courtyard seem (from the outside fence) larger than the Buckingham in London. Quite odd indeed.
Nowadays, the palace hosts the Indian presidency, a largely symbolic institution in the Indian democratic system.
NB - The Christian cross still tops the highest ranking institution of the independent India.
